Federal health officials are warning about a fresh outbreak of E.coli linked to romaine lettuce Tuesday and cautioned people not to eat any romaine lettuce.

At least 32 people are sick, and 13 hospitalized in the outbreak, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. No one has died.

“Consumers who have any type of romaine lettuce in their home should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick,” the CDC said in a notice on its website.

“This advice includes all types or uses of romaine lettuce, such as whole heads of romaine, hearts of romaine, and bags and boxes of precut lettuce and salad mixes that contain romaine, including baby romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad,” the CDC added.

“If you do not know if the lettuce is romaine or whether a salad mix contains romaine, do not eat it and throw it away.”

Just in the last week I've heard of so many outbreaks. Some turkeys, Ground beef, and now Romaine. I told the hubby we better hurry up and eat our Thanksgiving dinner before they recall the whole darn meal.

So true, Ruth. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Do not eat any romaine lettuce, FDA warns amid E. coli outbreak

November 20, 2018

" Health officials in the US and Canada on Tuesday told people to avoid eating romaine lettuce because of a new E. coli outbreak.

The US Food and Drug Administration said it was working with officials in Canada on the outbreak, which has sickened 32 people in 11 states in the US and 18 people in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

The strain identified is different from the one linked to romaine earlier this year, but it appears similar to one linked to leafy greens last year."

I wonder, why is it always that particular type of lettuce?

I looked into this a few days ago. It's because romaine is far and away the most popular type of lettuce consumed in the US. There's more of it to be contaminated.

Like many others here, I'm in salad withdrawal.

I asked the produce manager in Sprouts about it yesterday and he said the FDA has given the OK on romaine as long as it is not from a particular area in CA. He said their buyers are going to start getting it in from other areas soon. I'll probably leave it alone for a while, though, anyway. I'm getting tired of kale and spinach.

Our grocery store didn't have any lettuce today....I don't know if it was the Romaine....I haven't bought Romaine since a couple of months's ago when it was taken off the shelves...

I've been buying the Head of Lettuce....So far so good....I hope!!!!

I noticed our Wal-Mart hasn't had lettuce the last two times I was there, just spinach and kale.
Hubby is growing some but it's getting ready to get too cold. One Year he grew "corn" salad (?). It is good and hardy all winter.
