oh hmm, another one.5.1 MAG QUAKE ROCKS LOS ANGELES

Yeah, I felt it. I had just closed my book and turned off the bed lamp. Got up and turned on the TV just to
make sure I wasn't dreaming. Went back to sleep. Reading about it now on TV for the particulars. Not very serious in MY area
however.

Florida might have hurricanes and big snakes, but at least you won't surf into the sea while you're still in bed.

I see that there is yet another one, a 4.1 (or close) this time, making about 4-5 quakes there in the last 24 hours. Hopefully, these are just aftershocks, and not going to have any larger ones.

Here along that big ol' ring o' fire we can expect them anytime all the time. Dare I say nothing here so far . . . But that cat is still acting crazy...

The latest report is a 4.8 magnitute in Yellowstone, which has the volcanic caldera underneath, and would seriously impact the whole United States if the caldera erupts.
While this is a possibility that has often been reported in news articles; it is not likely to happen anytime soon, according to most reports.
However, the plates under America are moving, and causing more quakes than usual in the last week; so it is always a good idea to have some food and water set aside, in case of an emergency, if you live in one of the quake-prone areas.
The linked article shows where most of the quakes have recently happened, and also shows the location of the plates.

Apparantly, we got an X-class solar flare that is headed this way, and due to strike earth tomorrow (Tuesday). The X-class flares sometimes also affect earthquake fault zones; so that is not a favorable sign to have happen right now, with all the other little quakes going on.
The area around Mt. Hood , Oregon has also been having tremors, just small ones, but a lot of them, and all of them are along the fault line running under the Mt. Hood volcano. There have also been loud booms coming from the earth, and a sink hole that was 20' deep opened up in Portland, and swallowed a lady and her dog.

None of this by itself is especially worrisome; but with the quakes seeming to be happening so much, and so many places along the West Coast especially, it is a thing to keep an eye on and have some preparations ready if necessary.

Fern, it looks like there are quite a few quakes down in your part of the world right now, too, from the picture in IRIS quake map.
