Walgreens May Leave United States for Tax Benefits

Sea, What do you think it would do for us, or take away from us, if they moved their base company. Would we go back to the old individual owned neighborhood pharmacies, or would big CVS welcome the opportunity to fill Walgreens shoes? :notfair:

I'm not sure what it would do Ina, we have a Walgreens on every other corner almost where I live, so it is convenient for odd items now and then. Otherwise, I don't go there much. Just hate to see any business or part of a business leaving the USA. That's what's putting our economy in the toilet now. :(

First I've heard lf this. I've always felt a US company moves overseas, they should have to pay a stiff premium if they want to continues to sell products in this country. That don't happen because the law would have to be changed and congress changes the laws and congress answers to business. Still it doesn't change my feelings.

According to info here; they are staying in Chicago, although' they have just bought Boots here....a private company who, I believe, no pay their tax in Switzerland, because they are not listed on the stock exchange.
As long as they keep paying my pension....

I think the public let Walgreens know what they thought about their moving plans.....thus their decision to stay, this should happen more often.

As Drifter mentioned.....we would not have this problem if Congress would toughen up on companies moving out of the country.
