Hi. My name is Theta.
I'm over 60, well educated in my lifetime, and by now grown cynical, bitter, petulant ...

This recent unwilling relocation 3000 miles from warm sunny blue subtropical Gulf of Mexico and Bays and bayous thereabouts, to the cold windy rainy gloomy gray of the NW coast has just about done me in.
I don't like it here at all and I know it is no place I will ever feel at home. We just know some things.

Thus to anyone over 60 contemplating the move to the great NW coast, hopefully you're already in a cold climate. And hopefully you have no problem with depression. This is #1 in the country, right here. The State's citizenry self-medicate with coffees/espresso and beer/local breweries. It's a known fact. Which I did not know beforehand.

Hopefully I may add a touch of ironic humor here and there.
I never could have thought I'd turn into an old curmudgeon. Amazing what impairment and illness can do.
i appreciate such a forum for seniors exclusively.
Thank you.

Theta Z.

Hello Theta, welcome to the forum! Sorry you had to make such an unfavorable move, I can understand the weather is not what you're used to. I'm in Colorado, so it doesn't bother me, we've even mused over moving to the Oregon Coast in the future. Try to stay positive...hugs.

Welcome Theta, we are happy to have you, grumpy or happy, you'll do fine here. Any chance of you moving back this way. I'm in Harris County, Texas. :hatoff:

Thanks for the Warm Welcome, Sea Breeze and Ina, Jillaroo and Casper, et al ...
I appreciate that.
Ah, Sea Breeze, Colorado is my alma mater and was beloved Home for 30 of the finest years of my life.
I still mourn that I ever left. For true love. Silly me. Silly silly me.
Ina, I really really want to get back to Pensacola area, or Coastal Alabama. Glad you are warm there in TX!
Here it is after mid-April and barely above 50 with cold wet wind.

Welcome ThetaZ.I couldn't agree with your more.We have the worse cold & lot of snow on record this winter.Hope you can get back to the warm part of the your country. You must of moved to be closer to family?

It is 12f right now.

Thanks. There won't be any adjustment, all run out of adaptability.
I've been looking for the positive, but it's so dark and gray and dreary, that I cannot see it anywhere.

Theta, Since your new to your area, if you have mobility and transportation, it might be a great time to Check out the historical attractions, and maybe a museum or two. Give the area time for spring to arrive.

Thanks, Ina.
Spring has arrived here.
This is it, dark gray blowing rain and wind gusts up to 35 mph ... the sunny day with a chill wet wind.
No museums. Not much of a population evidently. There is no neurologist on staff for the entire North coast of about 37,000 population.

Thanks. There won't be any adjustment, all run out of adaptability.

Deciding there is no positive is not looking for the positive. Instead of what we cannot see, how about what we can see. Like I said, it ain't easy but can be done. Believe me, I know from having made the long slow climb out of the depths.

Hi Theta. Welcome to this forum. May the warmth in your heart & spirit drive away the chill from your environment, till the time is right for you to plant your roots in a balmy location.

Hi Theta,

Welcome to SF, there's a lot of nice folks here to talk to. Hope we can help in some way, if nothing else, just be here. It's nice to be able to sign in anytime and find someone around;) Denise
