I think Carl Jung originally coined the word, or used the words to describe his theory. It's since become popular in other genres separate from psychology, more usually as a spiritual connotation. Synchronicities are events connected to one another not by strict cause-and-effect, but by what in classical times were known as sympathies, by the belief that an acausal relationship exists between events on the inside and the outside of ourselves, a crosstalk between mind and matter
It's basically the idea that multiple signs focus our attention on a path. Meaningful coincidences. Like, when you're on the right path, the universe winks and nods at you from to time, to let you know. Conversely, it will let you know when you're heading the wrong way too! Synchronicity helps us know if we are on the right track (or not).
I've been a believer in those Signs for years now. Life has taught me to pay attention to them.
Here's one example that gives me chills whenever i think of it. My son was pulled over on the freeway for non-working taillights. He's an addict, in recovery for some years now, but this was early on and he was working SO hard to get his life back together and this seemed like such a blow, and just one more thing that he didn't need. He told me later (and I followed the news story after I got the word from him) that further up the freeway, just a bit after he was pulled over, there was an horrific wreck. Someone's tire blew out causing mayhem. Several people were killed. There's no way to know of course, but the timing was such that he could very well have been in that wreck had he not been pulled over. What I initially took to be a blow that made me angry and sad for him, turned out to be a blessing that kept him alive!
I've also been sent signs to NOT do something. Recently I was considering taking on another client, a referral from a former client. In spite of repeated efforts to meet, one thing or another continued to get in the way. My former client called me a bit later asking if I'd taken on the new person but I told her we'd just been having trouble connecting. She told me DON'T! That the person was a new acquaintance, she'd gotten to know her a bit better since the referral and the woman was causing trouble everywhere she went, at the Country Club where she'd recently become a member, and at various other places my clients tend to frequent..health club, tennis, spa, etc. My former client apologized to me for the referral and expressed relief that we hadn't connected.
What about you? Do you believe in Signs? In Synchronicity?
