Self checkout-love or hate?

Do you use self checkout if available?

Love them or hate them.

I read about it and it's age related. Older people don't like them.

I like them. Shoppers just added 4 machines at my nearest store.

What I like is the convenience. If I have to go back for one item for instance.

What I don't like is they want more information like asking for my email.

Also because I am older they come rushing over to help you.

You have to get used to them. I don't pick up anything that doesn't have a bar code or an item code sticker.

Yesterday I spent way too much time in a lineup at Metro. No machines. You have to use a beer lane for alcohol. It's a pain. And never shop on Saturday.

I love 'em. Almost always faster than the lines with clerks. Never had one ask for my email, though.

No love
No hate

I like to hobnob with folks in line
Or just watch how they act
It’s my entertainment

I get coaxed into self-checkouts by the cruising management
Then I watch THEM…..check ME out

I always tell 'em how good they are at it
(management likes that...probably)

OK if you don’t try to rush and pack your bag at the same time ! Just scan each item through then pack it away

Yes. Those self check outs are very specific about how things need to be and if you don’t do it right the self check out supervisor comes over making it extra time consuming as well as a PITA.

Always use them, when available. Much faster than waiting in line for a checker. They are getting better, more accurate, when scanning items. Very convenient. I never have given my email address to a single scanner. I always go with a paper receipt.

I used to throw a tantrum now I just walk out.

I use them occasionally but only when other lines are very long.

I don’t mind standing in line with just a couple of people ahead of me....I’m in no hurry, in fact when I see someone with only one or two items I let them get ahead of me....they’re always very thankful.

I don't like them. Something always goes wrong. Cashiers tell me employee hours are cut because of the self check-outs. They should give a discount if you check out your own groceries.

I use self checkout a lot, except when it involves trying to read the little numbers on fruit/vegetables, my eyes aren’t good enough to see that little print.

When I tried to use them I always managed to press the wrong button or put something in the wrong place but now the store has quite a few of them & an attendant, so if I just have a few items, I do the "befuddled old lady" routine & he does it for me. Faster than the express checkout, hahaha.

I use them all the time, unless I have a huge order. I've never given my email either, I just scan my store card and get all the store discounts, plus I get points for gas. :) I don't know about the self checkouts doing people out of jobs, I think that's compensated more than adequately for by the shopper services available at grocery stores now and the need for extra staff for those. My grocery store is always advertising for more employees.

I really don't like them since any large grocery purchase is paid by check and the assistant has to come and approve that anyway. Once in a blue moon if I have one item and cash I'll use them, but overall I'd rather just use a regular cashier.
