Self checkout-love or hate?

Even if push comes to shove, I'm confident I'll be able to find an establishment that will provide a human for me to interface with on my transaction, or, I'll just shop online. No worries . Don...

No disrespect intended, but I'd much rather scan and bag my own stuff at Walmart than have to deal with one of their "associates".

I agree with a lot of folks here for the like's and dislike's... I simply do not like them because they are putting good folks out of work... There's enough people loosing jobs without machines replacing clerks in stores... I guess once a Unionist, always a Unionist...

They said the same thing when banks put in ATM machines. In our area we are losing banks. They are consolidating.

In one town close to us there was one bank in a mill town. The mill closed down. The bank decided to close down so the town would have been without a bank.

They then decided to leave the ATM machine. So there's one place that automation helped otherwise the town people would have to drive to the next town about 100 miles away.

It's inevitable. Robotics is taking over in every industry.

Very Very Scary... Just like things to stay the same, more of a personnel touch... Guess I am old Fashioned...

One of the (long term) cashiers @ Kroger told me the increase in self-checks has resulted in reduction in hours for some of the workers. Kroger pays good & has good benefits, but a cut in hours can hurt.

They ask for a raise. They get it. So then the management cuts cashiers to make up for it.

The bottom line isn't the only thing. It's everything.
