I agree with a lot of folks here for the like's and dislike's... I simply do not like them because they are putting good folks out of work... There's enough people loosing jobs without machines replacing clerks in stores... I guess once a Unionist, always a Unionist...
They said the same thing when banks put in ATM machines. In our area we are losing banks. They are consolidating.
In one town close to us there was one bank in a mill town. The mill closed down. The bank decided to close down so the town would have been without a bank.
They then decided to leave the ATM machine. So there's one place that automation helped otherwise the town people would have to drive to the next town about 100 miles away.
It's inevitable. Robotics is taking over in every industry.

One of the (long term) cashiers @ Kroger told me the increase in self-checks has resulted in reduction in hours for some of the workers. Kroger pays good & has good benefits, but a cut in hours can hurt.
