Is this familiar to you too?

I'm on Facebook to allow me to interact with my family.
It has given me access to my grandchildren now that I am no longer needed as a baby sitter.
They are seeing a different side to Grandma too.

I see it occasionally. It used to bother me. It doesn't anymore. Most all of them are that way. They're much smarter than I. Honor students. They'll all grow up together, masters of technology, invent something, be a CEO, a teacher, a startup specialist, who knows. My worry plays three saxophones, acoustic guitar, Spanish guitar, and electric guitar, a banjo, various pipes and whistles, a clarinet, well enough to be first chair in the high school band, plays in the high school jazz band and carries a phone and an iPod every where he goes. Whatever was I worried about?

I see nothing wrong with it, times change, I'm with Drifter on this..... my grandchildren are very smart too, they are learning and carving out their world and I have confidence that they will be fine and we, the older generation, need to keep learning or at least know the basics if we want to stay in touch.

I look at my grandchildren with much pride and admiration especially when they can help grandma with her iphone and can hook up the new TV with fifteen wires coming out of the wall.

I think some of you are missing the BIG picture here,a son/daughter live in the same home as their parents and hardly ever has a conversion with either of them?
I made a rule here,no cell phones at the kitchen table when we're all eating so now she's pizz at me.
Told her if she cant follow a simple rule like that one then stay out of the kitchen too.
Wonder how long hunger pains last.:)

I think we are pretty much a "connected" society, for sure. For me, personally, it has been a good thing; starting back when i first got a computer and went online with it. My daughter was stationed in Germany, and between her schedule and the time difference; it was really hard for either of us to connect over the phone, and then it was just a quick "Hello-I love you-goodbye" conversation due to the cost of overseas phone calls.
When I got a computer, and we used email, it was wonderful ! I could write to her about every day, and she was able to write back to me as her schedule permitted; so we had a lot more communication, and it was almost like bringing her back home again.
Now, I live close to Robin; but my sons (and family) are all still out west; so we use the iPhones and iPads to keep in touch. Facetime (like Skype) enables us to almost actually "be there" with each other. Just the other day, my son Michael took me for an online tour of his yard and garden area, so I could see what all he is planning for his veggie garden this year.
My grandsons both have Facebook; so I am able to follow all of my family, and a good share of my friends through that social media.
Being online is also my social life, so it is not just the kids who "live online".

I'm with you HFL. I love being online and only wish Skype/Facebook etc. had been around when I was a child and that way I would have been able to keep in touch with my grandparents after we moved a long way away from them. I missed them so much and the only communication at that time was via snail mail. They didn't even have a phone.

Like HFL and Pam I also love being on-line, I have one son that lives a 2 hour drive from me so in between visits we Skype each other, I was on line one morning at 7.30 when my 7 year old grandaughter Skyped me (after her father showed her how) and she was telling me all about her upcoming birthday party that afternoon, much much better than a phone call.

I have another son that lives in Belgium who has a 9 month old baby and because visits are few and far between because of the expense, this son Skypes me every other day so apart from keeping in touch with me I can see the baby quite often and see how he is growing and he has also taken me for a tour round the garden showing me different things he has done.

I am also on Facebook where I can keep up to date with various relatives and also friends.

I wouldn't be without the computer and especially Skype.

Like HFL, being on-line is the biggest part of my social life.

HFL, Pam, and Bee, I was thinking how dumb I was about computers and online stuff. Then after reading your posts, I realized that I too was useing different online way to communicate with my family and friends. I am useing my laptop to keep up with the SF, and I'm useing my Kindle to read a book. and my TV to keep up with the news. But I'm useing them simultaneously. But I still don't know how to take something from one site , and attache it to the forum. And I still can't figure out how to post picture, or cartoons. I'm hopeing to learn from you guys as i go along.

Ina, to copy a sentence or a couple of paragraphs from another site, you left click your mouse and hold it down at the beginning of the first word, until the last one you want to copy. That will turn it blue or 'highlight' it.

Once what you want is highlighted, right click on the blue, and click on "copy". When you want to put it in your post, you can either right click your mouse, and click on "paste"....or you can go to "Edit" at your top toolbar, click on "edit", then click on "paste" from there.

To copy the url address of a website to your post, right click on the url (that will highlight it) in the address bar at the top of that webpage, then click "copy". When you want to put it in your post, you can follow the same "paste" procedure as for sentences or paragraphs.

Photos or cartoons can be copied in the same way, highlight and click copy, then do the paste thing.

Here's the how-tos for posting pictures of yours from your computer, or videos from other sites...

You can upload a photo from your computer by clicking on the "Insert Image" icon above your post . Click on "From Computer", "Browse" to locate the image, "Open" and "Upload". To use a photo from another website, copy full URL of photo (not webpage) , click on "Insert Image" icon, click on URL, copy and paste.

Another way to add a photo to your post is to click on "Go Advanced" under the post, if you're not there already. Then, below the post, click on "Manage Attachments". Click on "Add Files", browse your computer for the photo, open, and click on "Upload". When it's uploaded, click on "Insert Inline"...and it will go into the post you're working on.

You can also start a photo album, and upload the photo into that. Then you can use the same "Insert Image" icon, click on "URL", then paste the copied BB code from the photo in your album.

If you'd like to add a video to your post it's easy! Click on the wishbone shaped icon on the upper-right corner of the video, when you see the video URL, right click it and click on "Copy Video URL".

Then, click on the "Insert Video" icon above your post , right click the box and paste in your URL. Then, click OK. When you're finished and click on "Submit Reply", you'll see your video in your new post.

for photos, cartoons etc i right click it then tick "save picture as" then save it in "my Pictures" on the desktop. then using tiny pic upload i can resize for forums and post it using their URL
