Pleading cat wants to come inside...with prey in it's mouth!

I have to jump in and tell you about our cat "Minou" when we were residing in Private Military Quarters in Newfoundland. Minou was pronounced a champion mouser and neighbours used to take turns borrowing her for the night. As a thank-you, one would throw nets in the water for capelin when they...

    International Left-Handed Day - August 13th

I am sure I drove my Home Ec nun crazy...everything I did was wrong in her books.

    International Left-Handed Day - August 13th

I must admit my weakest point being a leftie is using the scissors but I do persevere.

    International Left-Handed Day - August 13th

I am a leftie and proud of it! Had a bit of trouble being taught by the grey nuns way back...they would hit my left hand with a ruler and force me to use my right one. Using your left hand to write or even darn in sewing class was considered evil! Actually all this held me in good stead as I can...

How do other seniors deal with extreme dry weather conditions, high barometric pressure and crazy high winds?

I have AC as well but feel chilled from it as not natural to me and simply have to dash out and warm up! Everybody here think I am crazy feeling this way. I feel that it is the extremes that affect me at this time and of course as everyone keeps telling me...'you are in your eighties so smarten...

do you know how to swim?

NO...I cannot swim but feel if need be I could do the dog-paddle?? When we were posted to Nfld many years ago, I found out that most Newfoundlanders did not swim so I was in good company. I did take numerous lessons in and out of school but to no avail as I am terrified of the deep water. I do...

How do other seniors deal with extreme dry weather conditions, high barometric pressure and crazy high winds?

I am going a tad nutsy with Prairie weather at the moment! I am having trouble dealing with temps in the 30s along with the rather powerful winds our way...with even a touch of hail which ruined my apple trees. I hate that when that happens but the herd is always waiting for samples. I am...

Seeing so many are in the reading mode, is anyone interested in another of my short stories penned in the 1990s?

"The Doors" by Ruby Rose Ruby--a precious jewel--or so she was led to believe--was a middle-aged woman with a daguerreotype of pain etched on her face by a long and slow exposure to a bad marriage. She had recently been abandoned by her husband of many years for a younger woman. Ruby was...

Books! How do you read and what do you read?

I beg to differ as I feel there are many readers on SF. I must comment on this International Bestseller book that I finished the other day. It is called 'The Little Old Lady Who Broke All The Rules by Catharina Ingelmas-Sundberg. I loved it all and want to join the 'gang'.

Growing older: What age is considered elderly?

I have confused people for a long time as my hair, which is naturally pitch black, started turning grey in my early twenties. (a genetic thing) Hopping along to my 50s, I said the heck with it and started to let it go. From keeping it up colour wise all those years, the mixture of colours...

Growing older: What age is considered elderly?

What creeps me out is that everyone wants to hold my arm...I am not an invalid just because I am in my eighties! But, on that same vein, if I know something is going to be heavy with sore arms later, I tell them to 'fill their boots' and take it and carry it.

Books! How do you read and what do you read?

I have read books written by Kate Atkinson and have enjoyed same. But for some reason, these days I am hooked on epics...thick books with a 'ship' in it. Presently in the living-room, I am reading Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh a dynasty based in 1880s during the Opium Wars which is really...

How far away do you live from the place you were born?

1,500 miles...give or take with many many moves later...where is home...I forget!

Schizophrenia linked to marijuana use disorder is on the rise

Must admit, I have never tried marijuana though people have tried to talk me into it. I try to stay away from pain killers as well as I truly enjoy having a 'clear working mind'...but darn it all, that old age thing is messing me about...gotta work on that...
