How is your day Today? Chat about your plans and achievements 2025....

Even though it's chilly this morning, I've already taken Goober for a walk. We both had a lot of fun....I brought a ball for him to chase! LOL

I'm having breakfast now, then I will be starting my to-do list. Funny how that list gets added to faster than I can take things off of it! 🙃

@hollydolly and @Capt Lightning, pubs sound enchanting to me. If only we had similar places stateside, I'd patronize one regularly for the atmosphere of camaraderie, despite not being much of a drinker.

@Mrs. Robinson, what terrible woes 2025 has laid on your doorstep. I hope your eye heals quickly and completely, and that the rest of this year brings no more sad events. Sending good thoughts your way.

Well it's nw 3.45pm.. the sun is still shining out the front not so much in the back now as it moves to the west

I got the wire brush out and scraped all the flaking paint from the downpipe in the back, then got the paint tin, got gloves on etc just started painting, when the doorbell rang, and my gardener came in and wanted to know if I needed him to start again this week.. after the winter break by the time he'd left I'd lost the urge to do any more painting, so I put it all away...

soo he will start again tomorrow and that will get all the lawns cleared up after the heavy rains and winter moss... the grass is about 6 inches long as well now...

In the meantime I have belly pork roasting in the oven with roast potatoes, which will be ready in about 30 minutes.. and I'll have with some sprouts and beef gravy

Starsong, here's an old photo from the village where I used to live. It shows the old brewery and the adjacent pub, the Ship and Bell. It was so called because it was a stopping off place for ships chandlers and seafarers. The road was the main road from London to the coast, and on summer days, there would be a policeman directing the traffic as it got so busy.

Is that an old frances frith picture?.. he took loads of here as well back in the day...some great photos that have stood the test of time for over 100 years..now owned by the Frances frith collection

In this tiny market town until 1975 there was 42 pubs.. unbeleivable but it's true, some had only enough space for 2 people to stand inside....

Holly or @Capt Lightning, how much would a pint of beer for home consumption be vs a pint in the pub.

Here a can/pint of beer directly from the liquor store would be ~C$2.50 and a pint of draught in a bar would be ~C$11, plus taxes and tips.
It's much cheaper to buy beer from the supermarket and drink at home ..MUCH...

I can't give you a direct price comparsion because there's literally hundreds of diferent types of beer. but for example cask beers are good quality..or real ale ..cheap canned beers are not.. and so the different in price is huge.. also depending of what type of pub also donotes the prices..

We have a budget gastro pub chain all around the country ( wetherspoons).. and their beer is the cheapest and depending on which part of the country also decides the price..even within that chain

For example in London and the London region a Pint of San Miuel lager would cost £7... or $9 US...in that pub chain

the same pint in another part of the uk in the same pub chain would be £3.50....

However in pubs who are not part of that chain, who decide their own prices.. you can pay anything up to £10 for a pint of oridinary lager.. like Stella Artois..whereas.. in the supermarket you can have a 10 pack for £8.00

March 2nd already! A little rainy, but not too bad.

Some of you may recall last year's birth of my "Leapling" baby grandson (meaning he was born Feb 29th). ❤️

DDIL's family is from Korea, and their tradition is to have big splashy first birthday celebrations. Yesterday's event was held at a restaurant with about 50 guests, including at least 15 children (a few infants, some toddlers, several in the preschool age group, plus a couple of older ones).

Fortunately our private party was held in a gated outdoor patio so the kids were contained and the noise didn't disturb other patrons. DS & DDIL brought toys for the kids, but the main attraction for them turned out to be a large fountain area adjacent to our patio. It contained at least 75 rather large red-eared turtles. A few were juveniles, but most had shells about 8"-10" in diameter. Also a few very large koi.

Need I tell you that I spent a lot of time over there with TGS and some of the other kids? This outdoor mall was built into a small hill so going up and down the stairs further enthralled the preschool set. Weather was Goldilocks type perfect. Topped out at about 72 with a very slight breeze.

It was a lovely party with good food, excellent service and a terrific crowd, but DH & I needed - and took - a nap when we got home!

My Romanian neighbours have just brought around food for me again, hot off the BBQ... and she the lady of the house had also made large Home made pretzels which were still warm when she brought them.. they smell divine..

Sadly I just had my dinner so not possible for me to eat any of it, so I can only hope it'll still be edible tomorrow...

It makes me smile because they always bring 2 of everything, I don;t know if they're trying to feed me up..or they're thinking I might have company...

Family dinner went well. My son and DIL couldn't make it but my oldest daughter and youngest daughter and family came. Of course burgers are considered a five star meal to the children and we all enjoyed them just as much.
My daughter texted when she was leaving and joked that everyone was mad because they were coming straight from church in church clothes. My cue was to run down to the Walmart and pick up some suitable comfy clothes.
The youngest girl, seven, came in first looking very disturbed. I asked, "What's wrong?" Her, "We had to stay in church clothes" She had a pretty dressy dress on.
I told her and her sister to go look in my room. Well I made a good decision. They were very grateful and surprisingly I picked out the right things.
I let my daughter borrow a t shirt and comfy pants.
I don't buy them clothes much anymore because who knows what is "in" week to week. Anyway, it was nice that they appreciated it.
We are resting now. Back to the old folk quiet life. 😊

This morning I swept and wet swiffered the bathroom floor and cleaned the rest of the bathroom. My oldest grandson came over a little after 11:00 and spent a couple of hours with me. We watched one of the Mllion Dollar House Hunter episodes because the homes in that one were ultra modern and fabulous. We both love that style. We also had an interesting conversation that covered several topics.

In the evening my middle grandson called and his mind was spiraling. Depression had taken hold of him and I had to calm him down. We wound up having a nice conversation. I believe I managed to help him. My son came home shortly after with the items from my grocery list and I put some of those things away. I have been relaxing and watching TV since.

I haven't bought a pint in a pub for ages, but I would expect around £5. The beers that I drink all cost about £2 a pint in a shop. The Scottish government has imposed a minimum price that alcohol can be sold at. They say that this is for health reasons, but it is really just an attack on social drinking.

I like a good 'hoppy' beer that has real taste. There are too many so called 'lagers' that have no taste and are sold half frozen.

It is another gloriously sunny day 🌞🌞🌞now at just after 10.30am, it's only 44 deg... but it feels very warm in my sun trap of a garden...

I got the downpipe painted this morning... not a great job because it is 70 years old and I'm no painter.. but i did get the flakiness off.. and it looks 100 % better than it did.....those patches are dappled sunshine.. not where I've missed...:D

Lovely weather this morning although still chilly. Have got all the chores done including tidying up and watering the plants, amazing that they have survived all through the winter although, they do have some shelter.

I can't decide what to do this afternoon but, I think I have decided to go for a walk and then put some music on, get my sewing machine out and make something.

Have a good afternoon everyone :)

I slept in a little bit, so I'm just starting my coffee. I feel like I'm late....but I don't know what I'm late for! 😅

I'm going to take my Mom to the cemetery, to visit my Dad, today. After that we're going to her house and I'm going to do her paperwork, and cook dinner.

She really enjoys when someone cooks for her. Plus, she doesn't mind doing dishes!!! Unfortunately, I hardly ever have time to cook while I'm there because there is so many other things that she needs done.

She always has a list of odd jobs for me to do (like reset her answering machine). If I finish off the list, and there is time, I'm hoping to clean out at least one of her files....she never throws anything away, so it's always a huge project!!!!

It's going to be a busy day.
