Spoke to the Walmart Manager

They've redone the store.

I told him I have to walk a football field to the Pharmacy...a football field to the cat food aisle...another football field to get milk...then one more football field to get my bread.

Told him to get bent...that I'd do my shopping at a smaller more smartly designed food outlet. I really don't think he cared about my feedback, but I told him I spent thousands in that store over the course of a year. Not anymore.

The same thing here - this Walmart redo has been going on for 2 months, and still not finished. I can't blame you for shopping elsewhere if you can. Unfortunately, Walmart is almost my only option. There's a grocery store, but prices there are higher, and they don't carry a lot of other household items I need.

Never hurts to tell the manager, but I think it's Walmart's corporate headquarters that orders revamping of the stores.

Our Walmart stores are also undergoing a serious remodeling, so yes, I believe it is a Walmart corporate decision and not just an individual store decision.

If you think it’s bad on you, imagine how the employees feel having to learn all the new rigmarole. I was told by one of the employees they heard it was WalMart‘s effort to keep up with Target.

I don’t go to Walmart near as much as I used to. I do much of my shopping at Kroger who has a drive-through prescription window, tractor supply who carries nearly everything I need for my horses. If Kroger, doesn’t have what I want, I’ll go to Walgreens or CVS.

i’m not boycotting WalMart just because they made themselves bigger and better. I think it’s a big improvement. I just prefer to avoid the parking lot if I can’t get there early enough to get a parking spot close to the store.

Walmart revenue is approaching 700 Billion a year. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I use the electric carts. But then after 50' I'm out of breath anyway. My gripe is Winco won't take my UHC debit card since it runs as a "Credit Card" and they have better prices on fresh veggies.

I do watch for safeway sales. Once got 35 lbs of roasts for $1.45 a lb. God I ate good and was trying new recipes for 6 months. Plus the local Fred Meyer (Kroger owned) does have some banging sales at times.

I think your complaint is a valid one, Beezer, and I've noticed the same thing. Our milk, bread, and cheese departments are in the farthest corners of the store, plus another biggie, the pharmacy, where there are always lots of frustrated looking elderly people on line waiting for their prescriptions. This is in the Giant, the nearest food market to our 55+ community, and usually the only one available to those who are no longer
able to drive. I do drive, and often drive several miles to one of the other markets, which often are more convenient. (Except Costco, you have to walk a football field in that one also).

Another thing that I find annoying is that the most popular items are always put on the top shelf. A lot of older people are short. So either they can't buy that thing, or have to do some more walking to find a tall, young store employee to help them. One item always up high is the 2-liter size of Coke, always a popular item.

What's our most convenient isle, right down the middle of the store? Baby supplies! Just what all the 80-year-old customers need.

I hadn't been to WalMart in quite some time and it seemed cavernous. I had trouble finding things. Aisles and departments were not clearly marked. But making you walk through the store to get things is a marketing ploy. While navigating around, you might see something you hadn't thought of buying and get it.

Funny you should mention Walgreens and CVS They have each closed in my neighborhood in the last month.

Actually, it appears there are two groups who decide on the layout of Walmart stores. There's a Merchandise team that decide which products will be available, and the local store management get to decide how to lay things out in their location. So in this case, if they changed things and it's not to your liking, then the store manager was the correct person to talk to.

That said, ever get the impression that you can talk to people in authority all you want, but nothing is going to change?

I forgot to mention the one way you could save steps in going to Walmart is use the online ordering tool as long as you go over $35 they will go and pick everything for you and you just sit in your car to pick it up. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier

My Walmart is like that too. JMO. This is to encourage impulse buying. Thats why stores frequently change their layouts.
Sometimes I will shop for my perishables and then pick up my online order afterward. If I dont need something right away I will just have it shipped.

Its not the walk. I definitely could use the exercise. What irritates me is after you walk all the way over there then theyre out of what you need. And then you have walk all the way back because thats where you parked the car.

The drugstore chains have been closing up shop here too.

I pretty much stopped using them because so many things were in locked cases to prevent shoplifting and the prices were ridiculously high on all but a few loss leaders.

I miss the old days when we had a family owned chain called Fay’s that had a weekly flyer jam packed with loss leaders on a variety of grocery and household items that I used on a regular basis.

Sadly, times change faster than I do! 😉🤭😂

Exactly so. As is remodeling.

Dairy, meat, produce and pharmacy are located in far reaches of the stores so customers will pass lots of impulse items as they get to what they want.

They have redone Kmart store near my place. I told the girl they should put up a suggestion box so people can give their opinions on what they like about the store . My opinion is that you can't find anything anymore. No large signs for each department, they just want you to go through
the whole store and pick up things you never really wanted. And to make things worse everything has the Anko brand name from underwear to electrical appliances = all made in China. They've lost me as a customer.

I don't shop any more, our son does it all. However the Walmart here is a small one. A few years ago they rearranged it and got rid of a lot of areas so they could put in groceries. DH and I make out a list and son gets all that stuff and buys things he believes we need. He is really good at shopping.

I’m not shopping at any stores where I disagree with their corporate policy or which politicians they donate money to. Therefore Walmart‘s been off my list for over a year. I’m also really trying hard to shop at local businesses if I can. Luckily Winco is employee owned and has the lowest prices for groceries with the highest quality.

I was surprised to read your post about Kmart. I think they're all gone in the United States, but I guess they're still big in Australia.

Where did you find a Walmart in Australia @Beezer ? ….was it meant to be humour ….silly me didn’t pick up on. 😀😀
I wouldn’t be surprised if they pop up in Australia one day
