Have you Ever Forgotten You Have Something In the Freezer....?

Or refrigerator? I froze two Devil Dogs out of a box of 8, just in case I feel like having cake. I had eaten the other 6 before the best by date. I discovered them yesterday and had one today. I also refrigerated a few dates months ago, which I think need to be tossed now. Once I hid a fudge pop from myself and found it when I was looking for something else weeks later. Mind you, I'm talking about a medium sized refrigerator freezer, not one of those huge deep freezers.

Nope, My freezer has vegetables waiting for someone to eat them, and they are all getting antsy.

It has ice-cream in it every time I grocery shop. I buy two pints. Two days later they are gone. So I think about how I shouldn't eat so much ice-cream (a serving size is 1/2 cup) and if I could, I'd eat 8 servings a day. Then I order 2 more pints.

Yes but not too often. Sometimes a container will get pushed to the back and it's very difficult to see since in our current kitchen the fridge door only can open about 1/2 way. We store food in specific containers that you can tell by touch what's what.

Years ago I was putting groceries away and put a roast on top of the fridge, because I'd run out of counter space while trying to fit everything in. Forgot about it--found it the next morning.

I would never forget a Devil 😈 Dog or a slice of leftover pizza but I might forget Brussels Sprouts. 😉🤭😂

I do sometimes have trouble remembering when I opened a bottle of juice, a container of cottage cheese, etc…

I probably should use a sharpie to add the date to the container when I open it.
I put the dates I first use certain items, especially if they should be used by a certain date. I don't however always follow the manufacturer's best by dates. I either use a marker or labels.

You're an ice cream-a-holic like me! 😛 It's crazy WL, but when I buy a 14 oz (aka used to be pint) of ice cream, it sometimes lasts longer than a 48 oz container! It's like all that ice cream (48 oz) is daring me to eat it and I have to take the challenge. 😆 I really tried restraint last week. My son bought me a 14 oz container of Haagen Daz rum raisin (my favorite) and I didn't touch it for 3 days, then it took me 2 days to eat it. I got a 48 oz container of mint chocolate chip from Amazon Fresh....couldn't resist the price of $1.88 and it took me 4 days to eat that! Unheard of !!!

Not usually, I can't stand to waste food. I'm the one in the household that manages the food stores and prep, so I'm always doing inventory of the fridge/freezer and working up meals around what is on hand.
I'm that person as well. If we have leftover mashed potatoes I'm going to find a protein to go with them. If we have leftover enchiladas I'm going to look for rice and beans. We recently had Asian chicken breasts with fried rice and brussels sprouts. They were too big for one meal, so now we are eating them on salads. Food never goes wasted in our household.

Since retiring, I'm the "meal planner and TV concierge".

I happen to like Brussel Sprouts. But I digress.

Ive learned to mark everything with a sharpie with the date I opened it or the date I cooked it.
I find that I toss a lot less food. Im sure that in the past I tossed some okay stuff cause I couldnt remember how long it was in there.

I also mark my pantry stuff on the side of the can etc with the expiration date. That way I dont have twelve year old stuff sitting around.

The only thing I seem to forget in the freezer is popsickles. I think I need them when its hot. Then when its not I dont want them. But I keep them because I might want them. :D By the time I do want them theyre all nasty and freezer burned. Ive learned to buy the small boxes. Besides they take up less room in the freezer. :D

I'm pretty good with stuff in the freezer but hopeless when it comes to checking packets of goods in the pantry. My son came over to do some weeding for me, so I made him some lovely Scones which he loves with jam and cream. When they were ready, I called him in for a coffee break. When he tasted the Scone, he quickly spat it out and said it tasted terrible, I looked at the date
of the box the mixture came in, and it said: Use by date. June 2021, four years out of date. I was very apologetic.

Oh, I would eat the two that you found. If they are still wrapped, they will be okay. I love Devil Dogs!

I did. When I was preparing to move south I cleaned out the freezer above the refrigerator and found a pound of ground venison in the back of the freezer that was 2 years old. I didn’t know what to do with it, so I thawed it out and fried it and took it to the edge of a tree line where I would see all kinds of wild life and laid it on the ground. I went back the next day and it was gone. I don’t know if the crows or buzzards got it or other animals. At least it didn’t go to waste.
