“Izzy” is coming!

The eastern U.S. is being hit or soon will be hit by winter storm “Izzy,” a name which reminds me of “Ozzy” for “Ozzy Osborne.” The storm may dump up to 10” of snow in my area, perhaps mixing with freezing rain and ice, which I fear the most due to possible power outages and the problems that can bring. If anyone is being affected by Izzy, we can compare notes here! ❄️☃️🌨

This storm moved through Missouri yesterday. We started out with freezing rain and sleet, then about an inch of snow. Today, everything is covered with a thin layer of ice, and our temperatures will stay below freezing until mid week....just in time for another cold Artic front to pass through later in the week.

Those in the Eastern U.S. may see a lot more snow....depending upon the moisture in the air. Stay home if possible.

Our local weather service came up with totals of 8 to 11 inches. Why not 12 inches? It's probably going to be more than that anyway in some parts. How do they know the cut off will be 11 inches? Is there a weather prognosticator they consult who says 11 inches and no more because I have seen it already with my third eye? Or do they get together and rib each other about it not being 12 inches this time no matter who it is says otherwise. If the boss tells us just say a foot of snow. Nope never.

I could hear the sleet pinging off my windows last night. I think that I would rather have had Ozzy (center in image) than Izzy…

14 inches of snow, 10 1st, period of sleet and freezing rain, temps dropped and 4 more of snow.
stiff winds knocked most of the snow out the trees so only a few down around here... power never flickered.
few plows in this neck of the woods so roads are a mess.

Izzy didn’t fight fair in my area. I didn’t get the depth of snow predicted, but the storm ended with several hours of sleet that left a heavy ice crust that’s hard to break through. My snow blower is useless on this kind of snow, and so are most of the flimsy plastic snow shovels sold today. Fortunately, I had one steel snow shovel that was up to the job. I won’t get above freezing until Wednesday, so it’s not melting much. I’m hitting the Tylenol, too… ❄️

We ended up with a total of 14" of snow from Izzy. We spent 3 hours yesterday morning, shoveling and blowing it. The state snowplow sure had the end of our driveway packed, but thank goodness our snow blower walked right through it.

It's lightly snowing this morning and temperatures are at 24ºF right now.
