“What d’ya wanna play?”

It was the rallying question that called us into the streets, alleys, backyards and barn lots, where no adults were around to organize us or enforce the rules.

“What d’ya wanna play?”

“I don’t know. What d’ya wanna play?”

No one ever wanted to be the first to answer, because the first suggestion was always shot down.

“Hide-and-seek?”

“Nah, that’s for babies.”

“Hopscotch?”

“Nobody has chalk.”

“I know! Let’s play tag!”

“Yeah. You’re it!”

And off we’d go, racing through our childhood.

Outdoor games are among our most precious memories.

Pretend we're all that age again. Now I'm going to ask each of you: “What d’ya wanna play?”

These posts are bringing back memories! I remember with Hide and Seek, when whoever was "It" finished counting they'd shout out "Apple, peaches, pumpkin pie; who's not ready, holler 'I'!", and invariably there were a few faint shouts of "I!", and they'd have to count a little more. Good times.

When we moved here to North Dakota I was very happy to see that the two most popular games on the school playground were four square and tetherball, good old classics.

I have the same memories about Hide and Seek that yo do KSav.
@Jazzy1 Jacks would have been my second choice. And you're welcome, of course.
