10 things in your home you cannot live without..

The question was "aside from food, clothing and medication... what are the 10 items you believe you could not live without, which means you would die without them. But, in this scenario, you already have everything you need to survive - food, shelter, clothing, medication.

You really don't need furniture. No chairs or sofa or bed? Sit and sleep on the floor.
You really don't need heating or blankets. Sleep in your winter coat (I've done this when the heating was not working for a couple days.)
You really don't need a stove or refrigerator. A lot of food can be eaten raw and does not refrigeration. Or you could make a fire somewhere.
You really don't need electronics - phone, computer, etc. Our ancestors lived with such things for many thousands of years.
And so on.

So, other than the food, shelter, clothing, and medications that I would already have, there is nothing I could not live without.
No actually the question was ... what are the 10 items you believe you could not live without,

The aemphasis is on what each individual believes they could not live without.. which doesn't necessarily mean it's something that would be life threatening if they didn't have it...or something that another person could appily live without....

OK. Aside from the clothing, food, medication, and shelter that I would already have, I do not believe there is anything I could not live without, even in an emotional sense. In fact, I have done so several times on long road trips where I lived in a van and had little else with me for months at a time.

good for you...we're all different

Imagine your house has been comletely cleared of all itss contents.

You're allowed to only have 10 items, of any size back into your home...

aside from food, clothing and medication... what are the 10 items you believe you could not live without ?

make your list ...:D
Books, Music, Kindle Fire, Crossword Puzzle magazine, Bed, Toothpaste, Water, AC Unit, Can I count myself? ha ha, and Toilet.

Microwave,computer, TV, fridge,bed,pillows,blankets,desks,son, cat.

Our home came with plumbing in so I don't need to list all that.
is it usual for houses not to come with plumbing in the US & Canada ?.. I ask because several people have mentioned a toilet....in the Uk a toilet is an integral part of a house...as is a bath ..so that would already be in the house, so not part of the list of 10...

Plumbing is the norm, that's why I was kind of shocked by the additions of toilets and sinks.

I was just about to mention that @hollydolly. I think it's a given that "your home" includes built ins including plumbing fixtures, HVAC system, lighting fixtures, windows, the paint on the walls . . . :ROFLMAO: :)

(Assuming home has HVAC, plumbing)

recliner sofa
bedding
pain gadgets: heating pad (flat and neck), wrist braces, massage chair, compression socks
gas range
camping mess kit
fridge/freezer
coffee maker
Kindle
Smartphone
washer/dryer

Suspect that also means not simply storing whatever nearby outside one's residence that could otherwise be used.

  1. Toilet paper, facial tissues that would otherwise cause unpleasant hygiene issues even with say just a bidet.
  2. Body soap for washing and detergent for cleaning cooking utensils.
  3. Food utensils including beverage containers since I'd hate to eat food using fingers or drink cupping hands.
  4. Lights for illuminating indoor areas during nights.
  5. Bed, mattress on floor, or couch to sleep on since floors are hard on older bones.
  6. Sheets, blankets so as not to become cold.
  7. Refrigerator/freezer, necessary to store perishable food items.
  8. Microwave since that is the only way this person efficiently cooks meals.
  9. Computer and its telecom connectivity.
  10. Camera equipment since I am a photographer.

aside from food, clothing and medication... what are the 10 items you believe you could not live without ?

I've lived this scenario! After I sold my house and got rid of all the contents except what was needed to live in hotels while I traveled, I found out what was most vital to me when I bought my empty condo...

1. Bed (I had kept my pillow and 1 blanket, so I also had to buy bedding)
2. Towels
3. Table (used for both eating and computer)
4. Chair (started with just a folding chair from Walmart, but then ordered a desk type chair from Amazon)
5. TV (it had to sit on the floor in those early days)
6. Recliner chair
7. standing fan
8. Bedside table (started out as a cardboard box, then a cheap folding table from Walmart, now using a scavenged desk)
9. End table beside the recliner (first just a cardboard box, now a real table)
10. coffee maker (carried along with me in my car during my travels)
oh 10 is not enough...
11. dishes (carried along with me in my car during my travels, but added to substantially since I moved in)
12. table near the door to set my purse and mail on (began with just a cardboard box)

The kitchen came with appliances (microwave, oven, refrig, dishwasher) plus came with laundry machines, so I'm not listing those.

ETA - my Chromebook, kindles, and phone are so much a part of me I didn't even think of them! All vital.
