Saskatoon winters are brutal. This is Saskatchewan, centre of the great Canadian prairie, where temperatures dip below -30 Fahrenheit. My mother was a stubble jumper, so I grew up hearing stories of sleigh rides and ballroom dancing on skates. Heady stuff for a child born and raised in the almost Mediterranean climate of southern Vancouver Island.
