2025 Doomsday Clock Statement issued

Many places are past midnight, already!

Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, The West Bank, Syria, these
are the main ones, that I know about, but there are
others, that don't make the press.

Very sad.

Mike.
Ah so that was what all the fighting was about then??

Whoa...so different birds are affected by the bird flu differently? Then why are cows, pigeons, geese, ostriches also affected? All those 'species' have been mentioned in many news articles.
So bird flu will only affect egg laying hens, but not meat producing? Only affect ostriches, but not egg laying hens? Only affect Geese, but not egg laying hens? C'mon. Cows, but not egg laying hens? Oh and some people have got it, but nope, not the egg laying hens! They are immune.

Absolutely ridiculous. How do you believe that garbage? Oh right you believed covid.

And of course you attempt to point out that I don't know different types of chickens. Huh, I guess you forgot that I was raised in rural Canada on a farm with chickens, pigs, cows and various types of crops and foods grown.

You're absolutely correct! Broilers & egg laying chickens are completely seperate breeds of chickens and are raised on seperate farms plus, egg laying chickens are more susceptible to the H5N1 virus whereas the Broilers not so much so Tazx was, in a sense, actually correct when he was trying to be facetious ... "Bird flu discriminates?! Nope, not infecting chicken meat production, just egg production!"
Where do you get the info that egg layers are more susceptible?

Bird flu (avian influenza) affects all types of chickens, not just egg-laying hens. However, commercial egg-laying operations often experience more severe outbreaks because the birds are housed in large, densely packed facilities, making it easier for the virus to spread rapidly. Broiler chickens (raised for meat) can also be affected, but since they have shorter lifespans (typically 6-8 weeks before slaughter), they may be less likely to contract or spread the virus before being processed.

Oh fair enough. A really intelligent answer. But still if it is so easily contracted by cows, ostriches, geese etc, and even some people, you would think it would have no problem spreading to all chickens.

AI generated answer to the question:
Yes, egg-laying hens are more susceptible to the bird flu than other types of chickens.

Explanation
  • Susceptibility: The H5N1 strain of bird flu can wipe out entire flocks of egg-laying hens within days.
I doesn't say Broilers can't contract the virus, only that egg laying chickens are "more susceptible" to the virus.

So our billionaires are big problem-solvers, eh?
I didn't say billionaires, I said capitalists. And yes, absolutely. We wouldn't be posting on an Internet forum, talking on cell phones, Googling the answer to questions, using AI to find new drug compounds or commercializing carbon capture technologies without bad old capitalism.

This thread is one of the reasons that I love Senior Forums so much! I started it out on one topic, but it's now diverged to a discussion about birds and capitalists! A person may start a thread but you don't own it; it can and often does (as in this case) go off into completely different directions!

Where do you get the info that egg layers are more susceptible?
Egg layers are generally raised until 2~3 years old. Meat chickens... or broilers/fryers are usually butchered by 9 weeks. The egg layers live 12~17 times longer than meat chickens, therefore have 12~17 times more likelihood of exposure to bird flu.

Stew hens are usually the end result of egg layers, so watch for prices in broths, etc.

I never thought about different countries having different doomsday clock times, but I think maybe that makes sense.

Who said anything about his dad? Last I checked, the Christian religions allege that Christ is God.
Yes and that is a falsehood! I hear people say "mother of God". They are not using their brains. If Christians believe that God created the heavens, earth and earth's creatures as is stated in Genesis, then how can Mary be his mother (she's who they refer to when saying "mother of God".

Decades ago, I saw "Is Jesus The Son of God", a PBS program by a Christian minister that I know . He said that Jesus himself said he was not worthy to be worshipped when the leader of some counsel tried to trick him into saying he was. He asked Jesus more than once and the answer was the same. It seems the counsel wanted a reason to punish him. Jesus told his followers to worship as he worshipped. Jesus worshipped God, not himself. The minister also pointed out that due to how language was then and how it is now, that God was Jesus' actual father was misinterpreted because the word son was actually meant to be "Sun"...as in one who lights the way (shows the way).
@Joey

We are beginning to dig deep now and sometimes it can be perilous but also exciting - there have been many false prophets and preachers over the eons - in the end I think we are challenged to make up our own adult minds - sure take counsel ; read much and many but don't just follow because you are still confused about life. It is your life - many of us unlike the poor North Koreans for example have access to unlimited resources to assist us

- this thread perhaps is just one feeble link but nevertheless maybe the strongest. Read all we can even the bible of course and I think it will lead you not to your smartness but to your heart of hearts - ignore the crowds - you make your own decision and we perhaps will meet at the gates??

The Christ has prophecised to many?

Maybe this is too serious of a topic for Senior Forums? I'm just worried about the future for my grandchildren and future generations. Does anyone else share my concerns? Or should we be optimistic about the future of humanity?
I've been hearing this Doomsday nonsense since the 50's. Let me ad that without nuclear weapons, China and/or Russia would have allowed untold millions of theirs to invade the free world on foot and die. Very few of the free world would survive such an onslaught of bodies from such extremely over populated countries. Nuclear weapons is the sole deterrent to such a happening.

There is the matter of supplies and transport for those millions. Neither China nor Russia has the size navy to bring millions of troops and supplies, both food and ammo, across the Pacific. Russia could cross the Bering Sea into Alaska and through Canada, or even the Arctic Sea into Canada. Crossing Northern Canada would be a challenge as well.

Hannibal may have crossed the Alps, but lost nearly half his army, doing so.

The most likely outcome would be we Americans, destroying our own country. 10 years from now should see that occurring, in my opinion, with a debt no longer serviceable with certain foreign actors no longer willing to rollover or underpin that debt, and resort to claiming that property they have bought and paid for... to prop up the almighty dollar.
