2026 - How's the Weather Where You Are

West of the US Continental Divide, elevation 7200 ft.

It has been unusually warm and dry this winter. Yesterday, however, we did get about 4" of snow, not much for this time of year. Temps in low 30F's, cloudy, throughout the day.

I feel for those in this winter storm zone. Hang in there, it'll be over in a few days.

Snow started around 7:30 AM. The feels like is 9F. It would be great if all we get is snow, but they are still predicting 1/2 “ to 3/4” of ice for my area.

My horses are in their favorite windbreak, covered in snow. Covered in snow is a GREAT thing as that means their insul hairs are working. They are only 150’ from their barn and hay, they don’t have to be outside🤯🤯

I put bird seed out and there’s a crowd out there.

My phone let me know that the freeze alarm triggered in the basement during the night.
The freeze alarm monitors the opposite end of the basement from where the boiler and water heater are located.
The water pipes run down to that end before going up through the walls into the kitchen and bathrooms.
I have a propane diesel heater set up on an Amazon plug so I kicked it on for about 6-8 minutes at a time when the freeze alarm went off at 3:45 and agin at 6:00.
I got up about 7:00 and ran the heater again for a few minutes to make sure the basement stays warm.
I have had this set up like this for years now, the freeze alarm and torpedo heater.
I wrapped those pipes with heat tape a couple of years ago but figure that a little heat going up the walls with those pipes won’t hurt anything when it’s below zero outside.
Our big old house was built in 1850 for the folks that ran the brick works.
There are about 4 or five more big old houses like ours scattered around town and the brick works dug out the lake at the edge of town.

Yep....it's cold!!! And it's going to get even colder tomorrow! There isn't much snow on the ground yet, but it's still coming down. It's not the light fluffy stuff either, but it's those smaller flakes.

It's supposed to stop snowing this afternoon, for a while. Then tonight an even bigger snow storm is going to move in. That's when the real accumulation will hit us, along with the super cold!

I thought I had moved to a warmer climate!!!!! What's up with that?!!!! Sometimes I think that The Universe sends us this 💩 for it's own entertainment!!! 🙄

Good thing we have global warming or we would be in another ice age.

It's heavily overcast this morning and has been raining off and on for a few hours. Currently 27F, wind speed 25 mph. Rain will be changing to sleet and wintry mix as the day progresses and will continue through the night wth a night-time low of 16F expected.

[Edited to remove "minus" in first sentence. It is 27F]

53F (12C) now but we have a cold front coming in later which is expected to drop the temp to below freezing by tomorrow morning.

Edit: I read the forecast wrong. The cold front is coming through tomorrow with lots of rain. Then it gets cold with a low forecasted to be 25F (-4C) on Monday morning.
