2026 - How's the Weather Where You Are

cyclone slowly abating - sat on the front porch watching and experiencing it abate - dog sat out too and needed continuous rubbing down with his dog towel - but he likes the outdoor experiences and doesn't seem to mind getting wet? saves a washing event anyways! sunday 25th jan here - 8am an abating sunday morn! - back to housework now - hmm??

There's a light coating of ice on the patio furniture here. Temp is 31F. It's supposed to be in the low 40s today with wind and rain...hoping 40s, wind and rain show up soon before the ice gets any worse.

If the wind blows everything dry(ish) when the rain stops, we'll be okay tonight. If not? 🥶 and our power will go out. It's gonna be a long day.
 
So far, not so bad in my area of Virginia. COLD for sure and a dusting of snow this morning, but today is supposed to be freezing rain all day long. I'm still hoping that the predictions are wrong. But we've got the whole day to get through. I'm still on my morning coffee. I have two bath tubs filled with water and 5 gal of drinking water ready.
 
Photo of birds eating yesterday about 4pm with about 2 inches of non-tramped snow on the ground.
Then just now with about 5 inches and still slowly adding to it.
Mine and DH cars out there so you know I am not going out driving for a couple days at least.
Our road has not been plowed once yet as you can maybe see.

Two or three inches of crusty snow on the ground, with ice like glass where vehicle tires have run over it.

Overall, we've had a very unusual winter here. Generally fairly warm, with overnight temps dipping to maybe a few degrees below freezing. This season, the coldest overnight I remember since October was -12C (10F), and that dip didn't last long. None of the fairly common -18C or -22 nights yet.

A few weeks back, we had torrential rains while the atmospheric river passed over us. After that, we've had a number of -5C overnights recently, though last night went down to -9C and forecast to stay below zero celsius during the day. Forecast is for -12 overnight.

My county has 3200 without power ATM. They are in a remote south west part of the county.

Nashville, which is Davidson County, went up to 184,000 without power in almost the blink of an eye because the rain turned to freezing rain so quickly and started pulling tree limbs down.
 
It was a balmy 68F (20C) at dawn. That will be the high for the day. There is a cold front passing through right now with lots of rain and the temperature has dropped to 53F (12C). It's expected to go all the way down to 25F (-4C) by morning.
 
It is above 40 F this afternoon. Well now it is down to 39. The big question is will the rain stop before the temperature plummets into the 20s. Freezing rain has beem forecast. Hoping to avoid a power failure.
