2026 - How's the Weather Where You Are

@Michael Z I know you are so over this extreme weather. My brother lives in NE Ohio on the cusp of Lake Effect snow. He is a plumber and has been working outside on some new construction projects. He has also been swearing more than usual.

I am retired in Middle Tennessee and we aren’t looking too good either. They are telling us our main issue is going to be damaging winds and temps in the 20’s/teens:

“NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY - SUNDAY NIGHT

We’re tracking the threat for a line of strong to severe thunderstorms late Sunday evening and Sunday night across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky when a strong cold front pushes through the Midstate.

All modes of severe weather will be possible, with the biggest threat being damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall, but hail and a couple of spin-up tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

Storms will roll into west Middle Tennessee around 10 p.m., move through Nashville around or just after midnight, and then move east of I-65 after 1 a.m.”

47% of Tennessee tornadoes happen at night. That is the highest percentage in the nation.

First Alert Forecast: Severe threat increasing late Sunday

I hope you stay safe, @Imogene! The thought of tornadoes at night is particularly scary to me.

Something my ex (who works for the National Weather Service) told me that I never had known before: The tornado sirens are meant to warn only people who are outdoors, not indoors. I always thought they were supposed to warn indoor people. (It's probably just a technical, legal distinction.)

They also have, or used to have, a PA slogan "When thunder roars, go indoors." My kids, when they were teenagers, thought that was totally goofy and fell about, laughing. I had to show them the NWS page to prove that it was, in fact, one of their statements. I'm not sure if it still is.

@KSav yes, it still is🤠

I rarely get upset over tornadoes warnings and have been known to stand at the westerly window taking pictures.

THIS TIME, I’m a little on edge because we are allegedly getting hit with everything.

It is the straight line winds that I worry about. they have historically followed the ridge 1200 feet above me and I hope that will be the case this time. At least with the tornadoes, there is a chance of it lifting, whereas the straight line winds are like water moccasins, they have zero conscience and will just bear down on anything in their path with no lift, until they play themselves out.

No basement, so I am readying the interior closet. No sleep for me tonight 🤯🤯

@Coco prayers to all of you for your safety🙏🙏🙏🙏. This weather system is unbelievable………

I lost power for 4 hours friday because of strong winds. Today we'll get snow, wind, ice, rain. I'm in SE Wisconsin.

My daughter lives in oconto wisconsin, they have a blizzard warning with snow in excess of 30".
How long do you believe it's safe for food to be in refrigerator and refrigerator's freezer when power is off?

Same prayers back to you. Be safe!

We're at single digits here and in a winter weather advisory. More frustrating, freezing rain is forecast across most of the state for Tuesday and Tuesday night, which is when I was supposed to drive to see my older daughter and her family, including my three baby grandchildren. I'll have to put the trip off until the following week.

The weather had better cooperate next week! <shakes fist at sky> :ROFLMAO:

Ooh, yes; those straight line winds are so destructive. We had some blow through last year, and they hit central New York once when my parents were still living there.

Have you ever seen a funnel cloud, @Imogene? (Or has anyone here?)
