Thanks, that is interesting. Anything built on the SF bay muds is susceptible to sinking. But an earthquake will likely one day solve the problem...

That city is sinking in more ways than one. This has been discussed on SF newstalk. Very expensive property having all kinds of issues..

San Francisco, and much of California is at risk from the San Andreas Fault. Many cities are at some level of risk from the soil they are built on starting to collapse from the weight of the buildings/houses. Other areas are slowly sinking due to the excess use of groundwater. Florida coastal structures are built on little more than compacted sand.

Virtually all man made structures are at the mercy of Mother Nature.
