@Knight50 years ago we just moved back to the states. No job, no home, two sons & two suitcases of clothing. 23 years later retired at age 54.
Ditto.I graduated from high school in the summer of 72.
Puerto Rico. We left San Diego & moved there when I got out of the Navy.
Not really. I thought since when I left the Navy & found employment quickly in Puerto Rico & bought a house there, returning to the states should be the same. It wasn't for the 1st. few months but the money from the sale of our home in Puerto Rico carried us through. Began as sales clerk/stockman for 84 lumber. Pay wasn't great but the side jobs working for electricians, plumbers, roofers, & wall board installers gave me a lot of valuable OJT. Add to that driving 18 wheeler full time for awhile. Toss in 20 ton dump truck driving & shop repair part time my resume grew. Never looked for or applied for any social help programs.I imagine there was a bit of culture shock, returning to the U.S.
I disagree.Things made sense.
