7 Year Old Girl Stabbed on School Playground - In Critical Condition

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Police are actively searching for a man they say stabbed a 7-year-old girl at the World of Wonder at Residence Park School Friday afternoon. The 7-year-old girl remains in critical condition at Dayton Children’s Hospital.
In the meantime, Police are searching for who’s responsible.

Police say a 2nd-grader was stabbed by a stranger while playing on the swings. It happened on the playground at World of Wonder at Residence Park School in Dayton. Charmine Blunt is a parent of students at the school. She says she was waiting inside the gym when she heard commotion outside.

“All of the sudden we just hear the kids screaming and running,” Blunt said. “We were like what’s going on what’s going on. And they said a little girl got stabbed so we all run out here to see what’s going on and it was a guy with some blue shorts on.”
Police describe the attacker as a black male between the ages of eighteen and twenty years old.
“He’s 5’8” to 5’10” wearing either beige or blue athletic shorts and either a beige or green sweatshirt and an orange t-shirt,” Dayton Police Lt. Eric Henderson said.

Many neighbors in the area are in disbelief.

“I can’t even imagine someone coming on the school ground just stabbing a kid a 2nd grader,” Cassandra Beamon said. ” That blows me away.”
Dayton Public Schools Spokesperson David Lawrence says the school immediately took action to protect the other students.

“The school was immediately placed on lock-down.” Lawrence said. “Safety and security personel immediately reacted from our other surrounding schools and were on site to help support.”

Going forward, the school says it’ll have additional security at recess. School officials also say counseling will be available for staff and students on Monday. At this time, investigators say they don’t know why the child was attacked.
 

There is No shortage of Deranged individuals walking our streets. If/When the police find this warped idiot, I would bet that he has a history of increasingly dangerous actions.

On a related note, our local news reported on the number of Pedophiles and Sexual Predators living within 1000 yards of the schools in Columbia, MO....and there were several. This is supposed to be against State, and perhaps Federal law. When this TV station queried the local police about this issue, the police responded as if this was News to Them. There are several web-sites that track the locations of individuals who have been convicted of such activity, and if I were still a parent of young children, I would make it a High Priority to see that the police enforced the law.
 
Something's missing. I hear about a lot of perverted or sick crimes but the age of the assailant and victim doesn't seem to add up. I'm wondering if it's a deranged father trying to get back at the mother by killing their child.
 

This is horrible. I can't understand it, just terrible! He couldn't pick on someone his own age because he's get his butt kicked all over the place! And it's in my state, too, lately a lot of news on Ohio.
 
Overtime I hear stories like this, images of my grandkids come to mind and I imagine my family going through an event like this! Absolutely shocking for them.

You could be right WIT. Just over a year ago a man beat a boy to death at cricket practice using the cricket bat. It was a domestic murder and he went on to kill himself. It was done in front of his mother.

What a terrible way for that boy to die, if it were my child I'd rather he went with a bullet in the head. The mother must have been tied down to allow that to continue until death?
 
I can't believe this poor child was beaten and also stabbed to death in front of onlookers. I don't get why nobody could stop this man and save that boy's life. In America perhaps someone with a concealed carry could have put a stop to it long before the death, but nobody there could assist? They couldn't run over and help? What did happen is that after the event Australians were shocked into doing more to prevent domestic violence in general. The government had cut funding to women's refuges and they were forced to restore it. Campaigns to change people's attitudes, particularly that of young men and boys, are currently being funded. There is one running on TV now aimed at parents. It points out that misogyny occurs early in boys and shouldn't be ignored. Schools are working on this and sports stars, particularly the high profile football codes are backing this.

I've posted before that domestic violence is a problem in OZ but we don't see the answer is guns at every cricket practice. People are correct when they say that guns (or knives or cricket bats) don't kill people. It is attitudes that need to be addressed and this is not easy.

I might add that the government had also cut funding for mental health and has since had to back down on this too.
