I just watched a YouTube video about forums for seniors living alone. I am one of these. I have a small dog and two cats and I do live near my two daughters. I had knee replacement surgery the day after Thanksgiving and that is one of the things I’m grateful for because I can walk much better already even though it’s barely been six weeks. I have to push myself to get exercise, I have to push myself to fix myself a healthy meal and those are my two biggest challenges at this time. I need help coming up with a daily/weekly Schedule.

Welcome!

Make a schedule of things/diet you can maintain in the long run, stick to the schedule/diet and get in a routine. For example, “walk 60 minutes on MWF”. The key is that they are obtainable/maintainable goals you can live with. Cut out the processed foods as much as practical for a start on the diet.

View attachment 394867 Pleased for you that your knee operation went well... co-incidentally I've just been talking to my knee consutlant a few minutes ago..hoping I don't have to have one
If you do have to have a knee replacement, go into it with an open mind. I actually couldn’t walk prior to mine. My knee had deteriorated so badly. Now six weeks later I don’t even need a cane… I look forward to getting stronger again and it will be a pleasure to go for walks.😀

Thank you, practical and good advice…

Congratulations on the successful knee op. Don't be surprised if 6 months from now another joint starts to give you trouble. Save up for possible future operations and always consult a good surgeon.

Take care of yourself and establish some sort of exercise routine. Find something to do outside the house that motivates you to keep moving. Make sure it is interesting enough to keep you engaged.

I write as someone who is about to turn 82, but who is now quite mobile after the past decade of multiple joint replacements. It has all been very worthwhile. Osteoarthritis can be fixed if you are prepared to undergo surgeries and rehabilitate afterwards.
