$9,000 Hospital Bill To Bandage Finger In NJ Hospital

But it could have been a non-stick bandage that always cost more... :D

A few years back before my father passed away I went with my mother to help my father get to the emergency room. While there I complained that I had an ingrown toenail. My mother suggested I ask the emergency room Dr. look at it. He had me take off my shoe and sock. He stood there his hands on his hips and looked at the toenail. 'Yep you have an ingrown toenail.', nothing more. I received a bill later for $165 for his services. Only thing I had filled out was my father's registration sheet with my name, address and signature as emergency notification.

A lot of doctors don't want to handle side issues or answers a bunch of questions. That's one reason for the rushed 2-5 minute visit. They want a separate billable file for every question they answer and band aid they give out. But they should tell you up front.

I remember going to rehab after leg surgery and started having problems after rehab started. When I brought that up they wanted to open a file and do a bunch of billable tests just for questions and observations about related to my rehab which I paid for. At first I thought it was there way of trying to avoid any liability but then I realized it was about money period. Ironically their therapist noticed the same things but would not elaborate.
