90-year-old Florida man arrested for second time in a week after feeding the homeless again

OK, how'bout a different view ?

A person works hard, for many years , saves their money and can now lives in a really nice place.....But going to & from this really nice place they must pass someone else pissin' & or taking a dump in their neighborhood. Or maybe a couple having sex behind the bushes, the successful person turns to see what is going on , shaking their head. As they turn back they find they just stepped in a pile of human shit........

Yeah, it was really worth all that hard work ............ Now where do they go ?
Yes, I get that there are some homeless that cause distress to others, like yourself. So, what are you doing about it besides complaining? A lot of these poor and unfortunate people have some type of mental illness. They refuse almost any help or aid.

All that I was trying to get across is that if someone is hungry, there is food available if they would go to the right agency. There are several different agencies, churches, groups and others, like soup kitchens that feed the hungry. No one in this country should be hungry.

As for the homeless with their issues, that's another story. Many of them are suffering from some type of mental illness, so that adds to the problem. It's tough to try to convince another person to do what is best for them if they don't react to accepting any help being offered.

Back in the day, the average bum that traveled the rails or just wandered from town to town wasn't necessarily mentally ill, but just didn't want to work or contribute, so they would just travel about and when they got hungry, they would offer to cut wood, paint, mend something that needed fixing or whatever for a hot meal and then be on their way.

What we have today is a whole different breed of homeless and like I keep repeating myself, many are mentally ill. The climate has changed drastically. We have too many misfits that don't fit in and are left to fend for themselves, but they are so uneducated that they don't know how.

It's a sad situation to say the least.

I was in Hawaii two summers ago with my wife and one of my grandsons and one of my granddaughters. The kids wanted to go to McDonald's on that morning for breakfast. When we got there at about 8:30 or so, it was crowded, except for a table where a young, maybe late 20's or early 30's man was seating.

As I walked past him, I could smell him well before I reached him. He smelled like he had crapped himself more than once. No one sat anywhere near him. He was sitting on a bench seat with his head down on his arms, which were on the table. We got our food and was able to find a table a few tables away from this person, but we could still smell him.

As we ate, I would occasionally look at him while asking myself, "I wonder what kind of life he has had?" After about 15 minutes, he finally lifted his head and looked around . He was very pale, dirty, hair was tangled and what clothes he had on were also dirty with a few tears. He got up to leave and that's when I yelled to him that if he wanted something to eat, I would pay for it.

He looked at me and walked out the door. I didn't know why he did that.

That was Nasty!!!!.... Hopefully you will never be Homeless, UGH!!!!!!

If I suddenly found myself homeless, dog forbid, I'd work my ass off until I had enough for a small apartment. Then I'd save and come up with new business ideas to turn my savings into a thriving business, and I'd be back on top in good time. Bet on it!

Read up on the homeless. Watch that video I referenced in an earlier post. Most are drug abusers, up to 95%! With rare exceptions, nobody forced them to get into drugs. They chose to do so, because of ignorance, laziness, wanting to be with their own type, etc. Yeah, the drugs may have blown their minds, no doubt, but they were not mentally ill before they became druggies, in most cases.

As some of you can attest, unfortunately, from personal, family experiences: once someone goes down the road of drug abuse, they rarely come back to living clean, for good. As I always add, there are exceptions, of course.

I beg to differ with most of you. I work with homeless people. Unless you know a homeless person or have been homeless you can only assume why they are homeless.
Any one of us could be homeless at any time. Literally. A major health issue can leave you homeless quick. We have many that are homeless but work everyday.
They just can't handle rent and other expenses on their salary - many live in their autos. Granted some can act and be nasty acting and doing.....just like many who work and have a place to live.
Just being on the street and living the life of a homeless person is enough to make you lose your mind- and they do.
No I don't have and answer to the problem but I do hope not to be part of the problem.

Nice reply, RedAlert….
I'd LMFAO if there wasn't a tragic element, here: The neighbors you reference in your post are part of the losers of this world. No sense for budgeting, in poor health, most likely because of poor choices, dying young for probably the same reason, having too many kids because of ignorance concerning how that all works when you can't make money to support them and pay your rent, etc., etc., etc.......

Yeah, let's just pay for these folks. Free ride time, y'all!!!! Great idea! Let's actively make sure, by doing so, that we make it easier for them to out-breed those who actually make positive contributions to this world, who have the sense to make a good life for themselves and their families! Great plan, Holmes!

They weren't loosers....Father died and the wife couldn't handle the money, she is disabled....She lives with her daughter, husband and kiddies..
For some reason the daughter couldn't hold a job....I don't condone!!!! It's a rugged world...And some can't handle it.....Some can't!
I don't judge.....
It's not my nature....

I'm done with you...

Well, I maintain that they really have not changed at all. Society pretty much stays the same, [by percentage] As such the same percentage still [choose] not to participate , & or support themselves.

How does this apply to an elderly man being arrested for being charitable to someone less fortunate?

I have already addressed that in a different post. In a nutshell, the two are not really related. A kind old man, is a kind old man. IMO his kindness is just spent on the wrong people.

As with many threads, this one too drifted off subject.

This is a damned shame! Why even pass an ordinance like that?! It would be better if they offered some kind of assistance in this act of kindness instead of punishing it. They should be hung up on the wall of shame. I hope they come to their senses and let We have an organization in our city that feeds the hungry (homeless or not) from a street corner once a week no matter the weather. I hope they lighten the "sentence" for this kind elderly man!
