A block option is much needed!

Don't state the obvious, I already have addressed the reason for my suggestion, on posts I create. But I do give you credit for posting on the subject here.
This discussion would be easier if we all agreed on what a "post" is. What you started here was a "thread' with a "topic". Your first post on the thread is called the Opening Post. The whole five pages is called a "thread." So you created a thread and then a few of us posted on it.

What I'm writing here is a "post." Matrix and I are the only people who can edit or remove it. That is really all the control you have on this thread you created -- you can edit or remove your own posts on it.

You mentioned posts being deleted on Facebook and YouTube and that may be part of the confusion. When someone creates a You
Tube site they have much more "ownership" of that than anyone has over a thread in a forum like this. I don't belong to Facebook, but I know people start their own Facebook pages, and they then have the power to remove comments they don't like. Forums are just very different.

All you did was state the obvious, not anything I do not already know. The only opinions I am concerned with, are of those who can put my suggestions into action and I hope they do. So your opinions are irrelevant. Again, This forum/thread is for suggestions/support for the site in general. If you have nothing to add or suggest in those lines, the keep them out of my thread. This is why I want the options to delete/block people and their comments, on my posts.

Methinks you are flogging a deceased equine.

...I seek to have the choice/freedom to delete/block certain people or comments on my posts. Thank you!
Hi Rindee. I'm just seeing this so I may be repeating what others have said.

I see here in your post that you typed delete/block with a slash in between which indicates the two actions produced are the same result of one action...but they aren't.

"delete" results when you tap on "Report" which goes directly to Matrix to approve if it's inappropriate for SF and must be deleted or not.
"block" results when you take it into your own hands and choose the "ignore" option...but that action hides it from your view only. I can see why a newcomer would be confused.

There has to be one person with the last word and that would be Matrix. Only he can choose to delete someone's post. That's only fair.

I knew that eventually, your jealousy, resentment and well, your envy of me, would manifest.
That seems unfair.
I showed sympathy for your situation that you described, .....
I made a promise TO MYSELF that I was not going to touch this comment of yours but I suppose I am not as trustworthy as I thought I was. Your comment is way below the belt. It is tantamount to bribery.

I just read everything posted on this thread. I use forums that allow you to delete posts you may not like however, if someone captures that post before it was deleted it will remain there for everyone to see.
I believe that my SF friends as well as Matrix gave you a good understanding on how this forum works.
If Matrix was opposed to changes, he would not have a section dedicated to suggestions, obviously he is not interested in yours. I would suggest you drop your idea and move on.
My SF friends often have strong opinions and don't always agree with each other but we remain civil with each other but we keep on exchanging and learning from one another. That is the beauty of this forum and I cherish that.

Maybe we should give Rindee's idea a trial period. As a ten year member we will give Holly first crack at it and she can delete any posts she doesn't like!

That would be because you have disagreed with *everything* that has been said. There was even some name calling and mocking others which is absolutely not allowed here. I'm actually surprised, since this is indeed a suggestion thread, that no one has suggested a "vote off the island" option.

Now that said, I *really* hope you're not doing this baiting so you can pull the transgender card and say people are picking on you for that. You were welcomed like everyone else when you first arrived... with open arms. If you feel "picked on" it would be because you have systematically mocked and offended quite a number of our established and well-loved members. Not a way to make friends and influence people.
How dare you steal my reply before I even wrote it! :ROFLMAO:

I am seeking to improve this site, and I hope someone considers it. I want more control over my forum threads, to block people I deem offensive, or, if I just don't like them, I should have that option to keep them from posting on it. And the term is "If it works, don't fix it." An old Irish proverb.
I thought I was going to learn something but try as I might I can't find the origin of your quote.

Do you have a reference that I can read?

When it comes to your suggestion for a thread op to be able to block an opinion. Isn't that counter productive to having a variety of opinion input?

You've heard of: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Right?
but it's not an Irish proverb ...coming from irish stock, I know that... however an Irish proverb which would fit the OP is this ...

A blind man is a bad judge of colour......

which means that someone who hasn’t experienced something can’t give an accurate impression of it.
