It's common here in the US and I hate it. Would that I could send it all to Australia but I guess other Americans would beg to differ with me since it seems to keep on selling.I can remember as a child my sister and I spent a week with our grandparents. For breakfast my grandmother gave us a bowl of Grape Nut. I loved it and have even searched the internet for where I can get it. They say it is available only in America, not anywhere in Australia. Has anyone here ever tasted it or bought it?
That commercial takes me back but false advertising. There is nothing grapes or nuts (both yummy) about that cereal. Pine needles I might beleive. Dude should have been embarassed to say that but they were paying him so much I guess it didn't.My mom used to buy it and I poured a pile of sugar on the mound of cereal. Kind of defeated the purpose I guess.
I've always liked Grape Nuts and keep it in the house. I'm more apt to eat them for dinner than breakfast and will do so once a month or so. Splash on some almond milk, stir in a teaspoon of sugar, and warm it in the MW for a minute or so to soften. Sometimes I make it using a combo of GNs and unsweetened spoon size shredded wheat.I can remember as a child my sister and I spent a week with our grandparents. But I don't eat that many of them.
A bowl of cereal in milk is way higher in sugar and carbs etc, than a few small crackers and a few little squares of cheese.
well, sure - portion size matters in both. As it would in anything.
I dont think the 'few small' and 'few little' was mentioned before
I think it kinda stands to reason that when people have cereal and milk they usually have a whole bowl of it, which normally constitutes a good bit more food volume than a few crackers and a few little squares of cheese.
And again, most cereals have added sugar along with the naturally occuring sugar (lactose) in the milk.
All in all, not a healthy snack any time of day, but particularly not right before bed.
I wouldn't say most cereals have added sugar. Not much in weetbix.
I think it is a perfectly OK snack or small meal - and no different whether you have it at breakfast or before bed.
But you do whatever suits you.
Sounds good actually. Before bed it's two graham crackers and one chocolate chip cookie soaked in a cup of milk and can be drunk instead of chewed. It sounds weird so I guess I'm weird.
Pfffttt... That "nutritionist" sounds like a quack to me. I'd be put off of him, rather than the oatmeal.I love a small bowl of Oatmeal but the other day I saw a person who said he was a nutritionist say, "Don't eat Oatmeal it is only meant for horses". That's put me right off now.
I find it amusing that you've taken umbrage to my views on eating cereal based on the notion that I'm on a "high horse".nobody denied there are cereals with added sugar - there are plenty without too. and obviously the amount varies
the vitabrits I eat for breakfast have 1% sugar, just checked the nutrition label on the box - I know weetbix are about the same. Lots of children and adults here eat them - very common breakfast cereal
I doubt there is much less that that in your crackers - but I cant be bothered searching and copying and pasting an article to say so
Of course ,as well as portion size, people ca n choose different cereals - and how much sugar is in them and what size portion they eat will matter to some people and not others.
But you do whatever suits you and enjoy the view from your high horse.
it's quite amusing because I was the same as you for most of my life... never really liked cereal at all even for breakfast.. but in the last few years I started to buy it.. and I enjoy it... I have it with skimmed miilk..very occasionally.. In my food cupboard there is 3 cold cereals and 2 tubs of oatmeal...all of them have been there for months.. but I do enjoy a bowl occasionally usually at night...and I'll do the same with the OatmealI don't eat cereal at all, nor do I drink milk, neither of which are particularly good for you.
I'll often have some cheese and crackers before bedtime.
