A brand new printer only costs $2.

I ran out of ink in my printer. I ordered one online and UPS said they delivered it. But that day was windier than hell, so I'll probably find them the day after I throw my printer out. So I went to the store. They don't allow wind. Replacement ink costs $37.98, but a brand new printer that comes with ink cartridges cost $39.98. So a new printer costs only $2, OR we're getting ripped off.

Ink for printers is worse than Amway.

Yes, the first cartridges you get when you buy a printer are "cheats". But even when you buy what you think is a full one the companies play games and it will signal your printer it's empty when there's actually more ink available. Now they also have microchips in them, so even if you wanted to you couldn't refill them yourself.

Pretty soon it will be cheaper to use a 3D printer.

I'm finding it cost effective to do my printing at a shop, like Office Max or Kinkos. I don't even print my own photos anymore, just take them (on a data stick or a disk) to the photo processing center at a Walmart or Walgreens.

I saw a printer in an office supply the other day for $36. I lifted the lid to look inside and the cartridges were absolute miniatures. If they were full they wouldn't last any time.
