When I lived in Newcastle I had the bird of paradise plant near the letter box.
It thrived in the humid hot weather.

That's pretty! The one I photographed and it's neighbors all looked bright lavender or light purple to me. Your pic looks more pink. That is even more blue than the flower of the Tibouchina organensis 'Blue Moon' I just got at the Santa Cruz botanical garden on our visit on Saturday. Buying plants is my one indulgence where retail therapy is concerned but I always put a limit on myself. This time it was just one plant. It's flower is actually not as blue as yours, closer to lilac but the foliage is also special.

That photo was taken from the internet but the first two flowers just opened on the plant I brought home Saturday. I'll post pics of it on my diary thread and then link that here after.
Gardening for nature, walks with my dogs and the books I’m reading.
Have they removed the Gazibo?I took these photos of a a garden called car side in Newcastle last June while on our way to Queensland , it was freezing there , but well worth a visit , what a stunning location over
looking the ocean .
DH worked for BHP in his young days so he wanted to visit there on our travels

Yep, that's the one.
Wow, they do look like spider legs.I'm not a big enough fan of these large Protea flowers to grow any myself but I saw this one at the Santa Cruz Arboretum on January 25th of this year. Afraid I took no pics of the plant names but some other flowers that caught my eye can be seen in post #253 here.

This is one of my fave flower photos. Taken in Michigan during a late-November snow fall…
