A flower a day ...

Here is a flower I often admire growing in the sand on our walks at Fort Funston. I know it as Sand Verbena and I like it for its spherical arrays of flower and darker green foliage. I took some photos of it recently but this one from 2024 is better.

A friend of mine said he was more familiar with the pink form so I did a little looking around online and found both. I believe the yellow one is called Abronia latifolia while the pink is Abronia umbellata.

Painted Daisy (Tanacetum coccineum)

The most common daisy species in the Chrysanthemum genus are called painted daisies.
These perennial daisies flower from early summer and continue until the start of fall.

The painted daisy, Tanacetum coccineum, has an interesting story. With vibrant colors of red,
violet, pink, yellow, and white, it’s cheerful and bright. But it’s useful too! While it’s
grown most commonly for its flowers, it’s also a natural insecticide source.
