I know, right?

Why couldn't it have happened using a proper knife, hmm? Why can't we all live in the 1500s individually while Big Brother stares at us through CCTV in every toilet stall?

Many, many of us freak out over this on a regular basis, Holly, but it's like your anger, frustration, stress, fear and exhaustion over some of the issues in your country. Most citizens feel unheard, unresponded to and bullied by those who refuse to accept and change gun laws from the late 1700s that make no sense in 2024.

But do we freak out? Of course. I wept and raged over the Georgia school shooting just a couple of days ago. On Tuesday, I brought my darling, beloved toddler grandson to orientation at his new daycare center. I swear to you on my mother's grave, we not only had to go through metal detectors to get in, there were TWO security guards at the entrance, handguns in their holsters.

This daycare center happens to be at a Jewish temple, so their security is higher than most, but I can tell you that the schools we do business with ALL have armed security on campus. And I'm talking guns, not tasers.

Freak out? You bet we do.

There seems to be an assumption here that it was something like a drive-by, gang related, mass shooter, etc. incident. Maybe she's training to be a police officer and something went wrong on the shooting range. Maybe she was small game hunting and another hunter mistook her for an animal. Okay, that's probably unrealistic, but perhaps @hawkdon can tell us what happened. I'm not ready to clutch my pearls until I know the story, ya know?

I understand what you are saying and I tend to agree.

Sadly, gun violence has become a daily reality and each of us needs to do what we can to minimize the risks to ourselves and the people that we care about.

I know that some will accuse me of blaming the victim but IMO we are the only ones that have some small measure of hope to protect ourselves from this and many other constant threats of modern life.

It's not blaming the victim at all... more like trying to *empower" people so they won't *become* a victim. It's an ugly world, but I don't look good in pearls.

I have to add my wishes to the others: I hope your friend's granddaughter has a smooth, speedy recovery. I'm sorry this happened.
