what a difference a decent bed makes, who here doesn't know that, ha!! Well, I slept so fine lastnight. And also, not one squeek outa that bed. Next I'm going to get better pillows;)

Anyone want to comment on their beds, and what they find to be the most comfy? If you don't have one, I'll see what I can do since I sure get lucky when furniture hunting;) denise

LOL

When I was younger,I liked it more firm, now I prefer it softer, king size and all to myself. :)

A good bed and a good pair of shoes. When you're not in one, you're in the other :D

We never had much luck with these 'memory foam' mattresses, so we managed to get a traditional deep, pocket spring one that you have to turn over every few months. It's fairly firm and we get a good night's sleep. We also found a local shop that sells fitted sheets for deep matresses.
We have a two-layer duvet - one for summer and two layers in the winter.

I dislike memory foam mattresses and pillows. My husband has opted for a memory foam single pillow.

I don't know the brand of mattress but something we learned was if two people are very different sizes you want a certain kind of bed. With the old mattress if hubby or dogs got out of bed I would bounce into the air. The new one is much heavier, kind of better shock absorbers I guess.

Mine is a Tuft & Needle, and I love it. $500. Best mattress I've ever had. My son has a Casper memory foam mattress. He loves it. I'm not sure, but I think T&N is a less expensive version of Casper because the construction is almost the same. Casper has another layer of something or other that T&N doesn't have. T&N is fine for me because I'm one of those 100 lb weaklings; he outweighs me by about 75 lbs so wanted to make sure that he had one that was built for the long haul.

We're both very satisfied with our choices. A nice thing about both of them is that they don't require a box spring and are fine with just a platform.

The next best thing? Someone I dog sit for has a Tempurpedic. It's very comfortable, but waaaaay out of my price range. Another client I've dog sat for has a Sleep Number bed. Ugh. It's AWFUL.

In any case, what it really boils down to is a matter of personal preference.

I have a very expensive Tempurpedic extra deep base mattress...it's simply the most comfortable mattress I've ever had, I've had it about 7 years now,..and it's really important for my spine that I have exactly the right support. Bedding is very important to me and I spend as much as I can possibly afford to get the quality I require on all my bedding and linens. .... 13.5 lightweight feather and down duvet in the winter and 4.5 in the summer , and very firm high quality pillows filled with Hungarian Goose Down feathers!!

Okay, Hollydolly. That does it for me. I like my new mattress just fine, but I'm on my way to your house. I don't know where you're going to sleep, but the bed is MINE. The tipping point? The feather and down duvet and the goose down feathers. Gimme an hour or so in case there's heavy traffic...

BTW, what's for dinner?

This one is just too easy, so I will let it pass and leave it to Phil...

Phil will probably talk about his nail bed, and if we are lucky, a photo too;)!!

LOL

We have the Sleep Number split King... very nice..

I would like a bigger bed but my room is much roomier with a twin. Also, I am used to a twin, and I just stay in one spot all night, weird I guess, lol! I mean I'll roll on my side once in awhile, but stay in mid-bed area. Probably so used to sleeping in small spaces hey, LOL!

I like a single bed, with a firm mattress, 13.5 tog lightweight duvet and two softish pillows.

Sounds comfy, and I like the softer pillows as well;)

Cool Capt! Yeah, the memory foam is rubbery if I remember right. It made me feel sweaty. I like a nice, cotton type always:)

I saw one of these at the store. May try one only because I have some pretty, major issues with my neck.

LOL, oh yeah, or when they get in after you;)

and finances too, that and personal preference, right on;) Your bed sounds great and I've heard so much about the temperpedics:)

Orthopaedic bed with firm mattress and pillow, and anlightweight electric overblanket.

However, the best bed is one you share!

LOL, well, I'm not into sharing at this point of my life, but I'm all for those who like it that way:)

Now, now. There's no need to be hostile. I'll be the guest, remember? :)

I am in search of a new bed and with all the choices I cannot decide. I really don't know what type of bed would be most comfortable for me without trying it. I don't mind spending the money for comfort. I'm at a loss on what to do. Any suggestions?

nitelite, I chose my Tuft & Needle bed online. You heard that right! They have an honest-to-goodness money-back guarantee, and after reading the reviews, figured I had nothing to lose. There were some people who didn't like the mattress because it was "too firm" and really did get their money back, no questions asked.

The way it words is that you get to use the mattress for 90 days (maybe 100?). If you don't like it, you tell them, call a charity such as the kidney foundation to pick it up, get a receipt and either scan it and email it or copy and send it, T&N credits your account. It's that easy.

Me? They'd have to pry my T&N mattress away from me with a crowbar!

We have a Queen-size Sleep Number bed that we have had for several year now, and it is the best bed that I have ever slept in. The best thing is that you can adjust it to exactly how you prefer it, and each side is adjustable .
Posiblly the reason that you did not like the one that you tried, @georgiaxplant, is that you didn't lay in it and then adjust it for the right firmness for yourself.
Even if two people are about the same size and weight, one may prefer a softer or firmer mattress; so it really has to be adjusted for each person, and can only be adjusted when you are lying on the mattress.

If a person has to move, then the Sleep Number bed is great, too, since it all disassembles, and there is no cumbersome mattress or box springs to have to lug around. You can easily fit it into the back seat of your car once it is taken apart, and the air let out of the mattress tubes.
