A Good Idea...Car Color Choice...

Car color is a matter of personal choice...but Silver could be the best choice for safety.

Drivers of Silver, White and other light colored cars have a lower risk of being injured in a car crash.

It is not sure why silver cars are less likely to be involved in injury-causing crashes, according to a study
published in the British Medical Journal and reported by the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

It is possible that because silver is both bright and reflect light, it may be easier to see under different driving conditions.

Research in the past has shown that light or white cars tend to be safer than darker vehicles.
Silver cars seem to be the safest of all regardless of type and condition, vehicle age and speed.

Injury causing accidents are more common in green and brown cars.

What's your car color?

Mine IS Silver!

I bought white for the reasons mentioned. I have difficulty picking out gray or black cars approaching the intersection where I'm waiting to pull out, so I keep that in mind.

Any light colored car is better than dark colors, IMO. They are easier for other drivers to see, and stay looking cleaner longer. We live on a gravel road, and the locals who drive black, or dark cars, are always looking like they need a wash.

My truck is white, and the car is silver....whenever we come home on a dusty road day, I keep a small battery powered leaf blower in the garage, and spend a few seconds blowing the dust off, before I pull into the garage. Sometimes I can go weeks between car washes.

I picked a white car for visibility, I didn't know silver was better, I would have guessed silver is sort of like gray and would blend in with pavement. Interesting to find out it has such good visibility.

At driving school, red was the colour most visible. That is what we're getting next time. I notice that when we're on the road, yellow/orange/red/blue are easy to see - especially in rain or sleet/snow. We have white at the moment. Yes, they show dirt the least. It has that going for it.

Mine is a similar shade of red to Deb's car. It was not my first choice, I liked it in blue better, but would have had to wait at least 6 weeks to get it in blue, and they had the red one right there, so I took it. Thought at least it would be easier to spot in a parking lot. Not true. Red is a very popular car color.

I tried looking at the source of the information. It appears to be from 19 years ago from a study done in Australia. It is odd that other references I found for various years say that white cars are the least likely to be involved in an accident, and yet the Australia study says injuries happen less in silver cars. And they said the cars were various ages and types, so not like all the silver ones had better safety features. It is a very curious finding.

My car is Black.. I have no dents in it so I can't say whether it hi-lights them. I hate black it shows up all the dirt that silver cars don't... but I would never have a silver car. In our car parks.. 90 % of cars are silver.. I would never be able to find mine...

I've had a lot of cars over the years.. my favourite colour is red.. I;ve had 3 in red, but mostly my cars have been various shades of Blue...

I will never buy another Black car

Thanks for that info @Jace ... I didn't know. (y)

I chose SILVER for my new car because I don't get around to washing it very often, and silver is wonderful for looking clean, when it's not..:)

I've always owned cars in various shades of silver and grey, but my latest car (almost 6 years old) is white. Since white really isn't a color, I've never gotten tired of it. I also think it is very visible while driving.

My partner has a Mazda CX-30 in Soul Red Crystal and it literally glows in the sun. We leased it during the height of Covid and just wanted a color that lifted our spirits. We can always find it in a parking lot!

Now I am really happy that the car we bought a few months ago is silver.
