Seems to me that it use to be working in Engineering, IT, a doctor, pilot, lawyer........jobs in areas like those. Oh, can't leave out rock musicians, but I never got any. Heavy Metal Rockers really get them.

But, from what I'm now seeing EVERYWHERE today, it's being a Tattoo Artist! Just look at all the tattoo's people have today. Celebs, sports people, military, auto mechanics. Heck, even law enforcement officers have them. It just seems to be a phenomenon that won't go away.

Neither wife or I have any, but almost got two eagles before I met her. She was very glad that I didn't. Just not huge fans of tattoo's, but there sure are some big and beautiful ones out there! But, the ones on the neck, face and head.......well.

What do you think about being a Tattoo Artist as a career?
 

I had a friend in nursing school that got musical notes tattooed on her butt cheeks.. So, when she is old, I can imagine the laughter from her caregivers when they turn her over to clean her and she passes gas.... only to look and see musical notes.. Bet they will get a kick out of it..

Like it or not, one thing we all have to agree on.........a lot of the young adults of today do love them and definitely get more than one.
 
Getting a tattoo was on my bucket list and I treated myself to one for my 60th birthday. It's where nobody will see it unless I lose a bet really big and have to run naked down Main Street at high noon. The young lady who did it said her hands were already giving out on her and she had only been doing tattoos for six years. It's an occupational hazard, I guess.
 
I have a married set of friends that were collecting tats on themselves before they even met. A year or so after they were married they began tattooing each other, then I suppose they figured they would recoup their investment in tat guns and ink and began doing friends and family and eventually word of mouth customers began coming to their house.

I believe at this point they're making a pretty penny.

Just go into a biker bar and ask around - I'm sure you'll get some great answers. ;)

Usually it's our skin that deforms (like the cartoons above), not the tat. What happens with tats is that they might use cheap ink which will fade in time, or of course you might get an "artist" who can't draw and/or has bad "flash" - the "stencil" that they use to draw the tat before using the gun.

The best thing might be to ask someone whose tattoo you admire - they're usually not shy about recommending their tattooist. Alternately, there are frequent tattoo "shows" that are held in many cities, which showcase the work of dozens of artists and where you can either get the tat immediately or make an appointment for later.
