A Kindle function problem on a Mac

I very recently upgraded the operating system (to Sequoia 15.5) on my MacBook Pro. It's been functioning completely properly for the wide range of apps I frequently use.

Today, I ordered a new book (Kindle-version) from Amazon. The new book, which was delivered to my laptop swiftly in the usual way, could not be opened. So I could not start reading. I attempted to open the book, but I got a message to upgrade the version of Kindle that's on the laptop. I downloaded and installed the upgrade, and the upgraded Kindle app appears normal. But the book file still will not open.

I returned to the Amazon site, but I could find no option for reporting a book file that won't open — I suppose that's because the Amazon system has registered automatic feedback that the file was successfully deposited onto my laptop's drive.

Couldn't locate help. Amazon's general customer-service menus offer quite limited options these days. Any ideas about what I can do?
