A Mick Jagger question.

Do you think Mick Jagger is a good/great rock singer? Is he overrated? Do you/did you like the Stones?

I do like Mick Jagger's voice though he's not my favorite rock singer of all time. That would be Roger Daltrey and Jim Morrison and a few others. But I do think Mick's voice was a perfect vehicle for the type of music the Stones were famous for - blues based rock. I don't think he was overrated. I don't follow the Stones much anymore so I can't comment on their relevance in the modern era.

What do you think?
 

It's the Rolling Stones, and not Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones. Outside of a few solo albums, he's been the frontman of the Stones for 62 years. I think it's hard to separate him from the rest of the band. The Stones wouldn't be the Stones without Jagger's singing and jumping around on stage.
I have to admit that when "Satisfaction" comes on- that's MY song!!!
(OMG- it was 62 years ago, when the Stones hit the airways)
 
I was never a Stones fan, but I agree his voice was perfect for their type of music. There certainly wasn't anything wrong with it. He sang on key and had good pitch.

I liked Eric Burdon's voice, and he's still got it, as does Jagger. I liked the voices of Dave Evans and later, Brian Johnson, lead singers of AC/DC.

My all-time favorites are Freddy Mercury and Brian Wilson (of the Beach Boys), but I might say differently if I thought about it for a while.

I don't think he is overrated. Like Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, and others, he has a distinct voice that although may not be considered beautiful, it is very much beloved. The world is better for their voices.
 
The Rolling Stones and frontman Mick Jagger have been a pretty high profile part of popular culture since I was 9 years old.
His demise or their retirement will be a sad day for me.
Many events that I think of as defining my life were accompanied by their tunes. And other bands too.........
 
The truth is the Rolling stones and the beatles in their heyday were my mothers' era.. and not mine.... Beatles 1962... I was 6 or 7.. my mum was 28 years old.. the Rolling stones equally.. first single 1963...so I have never been a fan of either of them, but I had to choose between them then the rolling stones would Lose...
 
I am a big fan of the Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger would be nothing without the Stones, and they would be nothing without him. I think he created a lot of antics that others followed. Dancing around the stage, holding the microphone stand, for example.

Having said that, time to give it away now that Charlie is gone. I remember some years ago in a bookshop, seeing a quote from Charlie in a book about the Stones. It went something like, there will always be a gig for the Rolling Stones. In Bognor or somewhere. (I don't remember exactly but it was something like that. Anyway, it was good.)
 
Ehh, another band thatā€™s all. The Blues influenced, much like Many others?
The Blues went deep into most of their music. Eric Clapton / Cream, another. Changed tuning, beat and bingo just growth of the music, nothing really new here!
When they pirated they didnā€™t have to worry about ownership rights that sort of stuff.
With a stringed instrument you can stretch, bend strings tap the top etc. and twist tuners. thus The sound and the beat echoes out there. Sure you can fit flats with sharps and smooth it out with drums and base. If they like it itā€™s a hit. Or a wonder and out of there.

Most likely a lot of stuff went on nobody fesses up to. Just like the Movies. Did it happened?
Lot of drugs come into the front shelf too.
We have to listen to it until fm radio is banned most likely. U tube will own it all by then/

I was l5 when l watched them on the Ed Sullivan Show on TV from Georgia. And next l knew l heard them singing (from a recording) at an outside Cafe while in Germany having coffee. It was "There were bells on the hill........"
 
Willie Nelson is 91 and still performing. In fact, I think he released a new album this year, or maybe last year. I was never a big fan, but his voice is very unique and perfect for his type of music.

Tony Bennett sang as beautifully as ever well into his 80s. He's one of my favorites.
