A Nice Walk ( with photos )

I was also pleased to learn that the reconstruction of the sailing ship The Hector was finally finished and launched in Pictou in the summer this year (2025). You can see they had already started it in the pic I posted earlier of Pictou.

Here's a better pic of the early stages of the replica build:

The Hector was one of the first ships that landed in Pictou, Nova Scotia from Scotland on Sept. 15th,1773 carrying approx. 200 Highland Scots. The word got back to Scotland over the years and many, many more followed to 'New Scotland' (Nova Scotia).

I wonder how many Scots today know this story and the influence Scotland had in settling this part of Canada.

The launch of the replica Hector June 2025!

Thank you for the info about ‘The Hector.‘I knew nothing about it and neither did my husband.

We DID however know that many Scottish came to Nova Scotia, Canada. That’s hard NOT to know. IMG_1778.jpeg

I do have an actual real oil painting of the lighthouse that one of my Dad's artist friends painted many, many years ago. It's hanging in my bedroom now. I'll take a picture of it with my camera one day and post it up here in your thread.

There's a whole back story as to how we ended up with a still functioning lighthouse as our summer cottage and how decades later ... we lost it due to Federal Government intervention. Perhaps one day if I ever go into my file folders of photographs in the basement and dig some out, I'll write up the whole story about the lighthouse as a Diary Thread?

Oh I’d love to see a painting of that lighthouse. I’ve got a thing for lobster boats and lighthouses. It’s a really cute lighthouse. I am also an artist myself so have a personal interest as well.

it’s too bad the government took your lighthouse away from you ! What a shock that must have been been . I’d be very interested in reading about it in your diary.

Overall I’m shocked that the government was able to take your cottage from you.

I'll take a pic of that painting in the daylight then post it up here for you.

A very good friend of mine in PEI had a lobster license for his area. They sold them back in the day by lottery only when someone retired and a license became available. He just got lucky and won the lottery one year when a license came available. He sold it a few years ago when he got too old to work it and got over a million dollars for just his license

There's BIG $$ in fishing those crustations I guess🦞
