A Nice Walk ( with photos )

A walk around Costco! 😂
I wonder why that Christmas tree is so expensive? We buy live trees grown specifically for Christmas from a Christmas tree farm. They cost $40 for a 9 foot tree. We have a cathedral ceiling.

Okay, I'll take the Costco Challenge.

Our closest Costco is near the two bay side parks we visit most often, Point Isabel Regional Park and the newer Albany Bulb. The first screenshot shows the Costco labeled and Point Isabel. The second which is from further out shows both parks and the Costco.

Here is a picture I took at Point Isabel in 2011, the dog with the fluffy haired butt on the right (in front of the garbage can) is my old dog Fletcher and Heidi is the dog almost to the water beyond him. This is taken from the North island, furthest away from Costco and San Francisco is in the distance. A lot of people swim at Albany Beach in the morning though it seems a little sketchy health wise to me.

The next one is taken from the Western most edge of Albany Bulb where there is a lot of guerrilla art to be seen. I like to think of this one as a tribute to all the hearts people have left in San Francisco.

Here is another one taken at the Bulb of my old dogs Smokey and Heidi in 2018, seemingly navigating one of the labyrinths people have constructed there.

Today was another 4 kilometre walk. There were lobster boats coming in from fishing.

I have a thing for lobster boats.
Here’s a nice quiet spot for watching the boats come in and out.

Have a lovely day !

Lovely! Doesn't a photo with a seat just invite you into the picture and makes you comfortable to stay a while. Is lobster a popular meal in your area and if so is it expensive?

Thank you Mark. I love finding comfortable benches to sit on, especially ones with gorgeous views.

Apparently this province has some of the best lobster in the world. There are many restaurants that serve lobster but I don’t like it. I like cod fish and Atlantic salmon but not a fan of shellfish and stuff. If my husband wants to cook lobster, he has to cook it in his garage.

I have to confess to not being a big fan of lobster. Really anything you put butter , white wine and lemon on is going to be pretty good but I find he rubbed texture off putting. I’ll take the flaky flesh of our local crab every day of the week. 😉

Today was a short walk; only a bit less than 3 kilometres. It’s 14 degrees Celsius and sunny.
We met a couple walking their dogs. They had a wheaten terrier and a standard poodle. Both dogs were big. One of our dogs loves meeting other dogs and the other one doesn’t. Our smaller dog doesn’t like meeting anyone or any other dogs and gets quite bent out of shape when our other dog sniffs noses with them. lol He’s only 13 pounds so it’s a bit comical.

If that is a walk you can get to without driving you are very fortunate. I especially like the angle of the bench in the third photo but all depict a place I'd enjoy walking.

Got a decent walk today. Lia stayed on the paved path above the beach while we took a longer route down to the beach, across it and then back up to rendezvous before returning to the car. Got a few decent photos.

Acacia and Pampas grass on the way down to the beach.

Several paragliders in the air at the start but no hangliders. Taken from too far away.

Ember's favorite activity on the beach.

Shortly before heading up, a couple of ravens taunt Ember from the cliffs at the point where I got my pants wet at high tide not too long ago.

@MarkD - Most of our favourite walks we have to drive to. There is a couple a nice walks around where we live but we prefer to travel. Ususlly when we drive to walk any where, we make sure that we have groceries to get or gas or some banking. That way we’re killing 2 birds with 1 stone, so to speak.

I’d love to go hand gliding. I’ve been parasailing before and loved it. IMG_5065.jpeg
Are all your walks directly from your house or do you drive to get to them?

Today we had to purchase a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner and deposited a cheque into the bank but we did go for a nice walk.

There are all the lobster boats parked in the channel. It’s a view I never get sick of.

@MarkD pampas grass is banned in Australia, many used to use it as a feature plant in the garden until it started spreading to national parks and gardens …...now days many plant smaller growing grasses in front yards but they must be sterile grass purchased from plant nurseries

Yes Pampas grass is a disaster in our area too. You can’t buy but of course most of it is from wind blown seed. The roots are too formidable to dig up by hand. I have a sterile yellow one and if it ever flowers I’ll remove it before it can cause any mischief. This is from 2009. It is smaller than the big pest form but like it, each blade of grass is like a bandsaw blade.

It is the same for us. Our better walks all require a drive but not far, just 15 to 45 minutes usually. During the worst of the pandemic we took many walks around the neighborhood and still do occasionally if time is short. It was good to see more gardens of our neighbors I hadn't seen before.

Also, I do sometimes take Ember to the park behind us just to throw a ball to her so she can rest easy while we're away for the day while Lia gets treatment at Stanford or in San Francisco. I used to throw the ball for Smokey there but with him I could do it any time of day so long as we had a clear alley for him to run. But he would never approach a stranger, beg for food or allow anyone to pet him either. He was just a great dog.

Where we used to live was a walking paradise which I really miss. Our walks take a 10 minute to 45 minute drive too. A couple of places are over 45 minutes but they really are worth it. Many places where we walk, we drive to do our grocery shopping anyway so it pays off.

Here’s a picture of a rainbow 🌈 right in front of our house this morning. Rainbows seem so magical.

Thankfully our heat wave is over. Today we are not likely to go over 70 F and there is a chance of drizzle until noon. Bring it on and could I also have a rainbow on the side I wonder.
