A Nice Walk ( with photos )

IMG_2967.jpeg

Love to see such an interesting sky reflected in the water here.

Today I took the pup back to Albany Bulb for a nice long walk. This is right next to Golden Gate Fields racetrack which will soon be closing for good. It sits right across the bay from San Francisco on the site of a construction debris landfill that was active from 1963 to 1983. It went on to become a homeless encampment and popular place for constructing guerilla art.

The pictures I’ve included here are all from something fairly new and ambitious, a deck situated atop concrete with a hammock on top and a spiral staircase leading from the basement below to the deck above. The scene approaching the structure from the east above.

Looking west across the deck.

Underneath Ember is sitting at the start of the spiral staircase.

Standing on the landing where Ember had been I can see the short staircase that leads to the deck.

I have no idea who built it or what it meant to them. I’ve put out feelers but haven’t learned anything yet.

Edited to say I was just told the original structure had been called Mad Marc's Castle (no alias of mine, I assure you).

We have had so much rain of late getting out has been very limited, just enough time between the showers to buy groceries and that's about it. Yesterday I went through this thread again and reminisced those sunny summer days, then, looking out this morning, I see that the sun has got his hat on, here's The New Forest in the autumnal sunshine.

My wife smiled when I had her look at the photos. "Not exactly Strone Road," she quipped. Strone Road is in East London, it's where we bought our first home fifty-five years ago. Here's a picture of it, a terraced row of houses and your garage is a strip of the road, where you leave it at the mercy of thieves and vandals. The second photo is what my journey to work every day back then, looked like.

Today we walked through a provincial park in the rain. Campers were just waking up and starting to eat their breakfast. The park was quite full so we kept our dogs on their leashes…

When we got to the nature trail we took them off.

The trail overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.

Lobster boats can be seen from the trail. There’s something about lobster boats that really tucks at my heart. I’m convinced that in one lifetime I may have been a fisherman. Lol.

We went down to get a close up of the lobster boats and lobster traps. A man determined to catch some mackerel was fishing right off the point. At this point in time, it was pouring.

Here’s a close up of one of the fishing boats.

Today it’s 22 degrees Celsius and we walked 5.3 kilometres along the Atlantic Ocean Coastline.

We walked along the beach for a look at the ocean water. It was crystal clear without a ripple of movement.

I took several pictures of my husband on the rock with our dogs to send to his mother. She recently broke her shoulder.

We got out early today while it was still cool’ish and foggy. It’s now sunny with the odd cloud and going up to 26 with a humid x of 38.

Looks like you're on a trip! Been a while since we've done much traveling. Nice seeing the pictures!

Thank Mark,
We ARE on a trip almost every day. Some trips are new to us and some we’ve walked before. I know you can relate.

True we walk somewhere every day. But I think you must be doing more than day trips. Happy to come along by way of your camera but I don’t think I can drive much more than a hour without stopping to walk and stretch.

This. This. I love when you photograph roads & paths like this. It's like *I* am walking this lovely road that LEADS to the loveliest of places. A road, a path, that leads somewhere I am Not Afraid Of.
Wish I had enough ink left in my printer to print this out and hang it on my wall alongside another road like this that you gifted me with. I'm walking this path of No Fear, thanks to you ❤️

We walk most days. On rainy days, I usually stay home and my husband usually goes. Occasionally I’ll walk in the rain but prefer not to get wet.

All our walks are 10 to 35 minutes away from our home so they are all just day trips. We drive to go to nicer areas to walk our dogs. There are at least a 2 dozen places we go walking. We enjoy variety and so do our dogs.

Where we walk often depends on the weather. If we need to go grocery shopping or pick something up in town then we’ll walk on the man made trails. There are many just 30 minutes from where we live that can be walked 4 seasons out of the year.

The walk we did this morning is a trail that used to be an old railroad track route. It runs right along the Atlantic Ocean so is very scenic and usually cooler. This morning it was only 19 degrees.

We usually talk while we walk. This morning we saw and heard a loon on the water. I mentioned that it didn’t sound like the lake loons we heard in Algonquin Park, so my husband talked about how they evolved. Sure enough he was right. It then made sense that they’d sound a bit different. Physically they ARE different.

Its hide tide this morning so there’s more water up on the beach part. Usually we walk across this part.

I really like the dog rose on this beach. It smells so nice. Then again, this province has wild dog roses everywhere. My husband has picked about 2 dozen of them and they are currently reproducing.

The environment that I live in is so different from yours ! I enjoy you sharing the pictures because it makes me feel mentally cooler.

Out of everyone on this site, there’s nobody I’d love more to walk with than you. Some days I even talk to you like you are there. My husband even knows who you are. If I say something WAY out of context of the conversation, he’ll say ‘Pepper.’ I just smile and nod.

Hi Mark,
Those steps leading down look so nice.
We go to places where we have to put our dogs on their leash but they are also well behaved both on their leash and off.

Your wife and you make a very attractive couple. Thanks for sharing.

Does your wife go for walks everyday with you?

Enjoying the pictures everyone shares of their walks.

We have bike trail that goes along the local creek that I would like to walk Mac on.
My husband has a problem with his legs & won't walk with us.
I won't go alone as bear & bob cat have been sighted along the trail.
Thanks for joining us. I’ve never seen a bear here but I’ve seen Bob cats. The other day our little dog was standing up to a red fox. Luckily the fox backed off. I’ve seen a lot of fox here on the island. Hopefully our dogs know to leave them alone.
