A Nice Walk ( with photos )

Yesterday I skipped my walk but today I was all ready to go. As soon as we walked out the door it started raining but we took umbrellas and went anyway. We didn’t need them for long and to be truthful it was nice to get a bit of rain. We walked up mountain road which had a nice breeze, together it really cooled us down. It’s only 24 degrees.

One thing there’s a lot of up there is ragweed. All kinds of bubble bees 🐝 were attached to these rag weeds. It’s been ages since I saw so many bees in one place. It was nice walking through the rag weed listening to and seeing all these bees. A simple pleasure to enjoy for sure.

We walked 3 kilometres. Once we got to the car it started raining again. Our timing for this walk couldn’t have been better. Now that we are home the sun is peeking out.

Note; I could be wrong about this being ragweed. If somebody else knows please let me know.

Afraid I'm not familiar with rag weed or the plant shown here. If they make the bees happy that is pretty good.

We took a walk I wasn't sure we'd ever do together again at Fort Funston. From the parking lot near where the hang gliders take off (not my photo).

From there we went south along the edge of the upper cliff where I took this photo of Ember yesterday.

We went south and then down some steep soft sand to the plane above the beach where there is a swinging bench under some trees.

From there we went on down to and then along the beach to the northern most path back up to the upper trails. Quite a haul for Lia.

Nice photos. Thanks for adding them.
I’d love to go hang gliding. If they had it here I’d be in line to go. Lol. Your dog is actually very photogenic. Border Collies are the world’s smartest dogs. He / she looks intelligent.

We went back to the beach today, this time with a friend and her dog Wolfie. Lia stayed on top while I escorted our friend down to the beach and then back up to rendezvous with Lia at the end. I never managed to get my camera out but our friend Sherry did and sent me three photos of our dogs on the beach where we rested. She snapped some pics while I threw the old ball Wolfie found. I think Ember looks like a dangerous predator and Wolfie looks rock solid. Good looking boy too.

Have fun. Hope you remember to take your camera out or else go with someone else who will. ;)
Thanks Mark. Your pictures reminded me that there’s a sand beach that we forgot about. This morning we headed to it. It’s very close to a nursing home. A place I might go to and play my saxophone and sing. On the way there, I spotted a beautiful field full of purple wild flowers.

A bit further up I found this delightful lighthouse with 2 floating boats. It’s so very cute.

And here’s the sandy beach I was talking about. It’s a great place to swim and play in the water. We would have walked further but there’s a river that’s needs jumping or walking through. I know our girl would go in the water and follow us. I really wasn’t sure about our little boy. He’s just over 10 pounds and I was afraid the current would take him with it but even that wasn’t far. We decided to turn around. I could have taken off my shoes and walked through the water carrying him but didn’t think of it until now.

A foghorn could be heard every 5 seconds or so. It was a lovely walk so thanks for reminding me. We ALL loved it. On the way back home we stopped at a ‘helpful yourself ‘ fruit and vegetable stand. We’ve been having salads every lunch. We have so much homegrown lettuce to eat that we need to eat salad every day.

Since it was the weekend, the path was extra busy today. We had 4 side by side ATV’s pass us as well as 9 bicycles. We were the only people walking on the path today while we walked. We left early this morning so it wasn’t too hot. It was about 23 degrees Celsius

Wow that is really cold out for this time of year out. But who knows for Maine? Are you enjoying good seafood? Have to admit I’m no fan of lobster, being spoiled by eating Dingeness crab. But hey anything in a little white wine and butter is edible. 😉

It was hot out here yesterday so we went to Albany Bulb where I could throw the ball for Ember along the water. Not much of a pic but a photo op so I took it.

Ooops! I meant Celsius. It’s certainly not cold. It was basically a bit over room temperature so quite comfortable. I LOVE the pic you took.

Our last walk was 4 1/2 kilometres. Today’s walk was only 3.2. We walked on one of the mountain roads which was nice. The main thing that got me wanting to turn back were the horse flies. By horse flies, I mean those big flies that buzz around your head. When they bite, they actually take chunks of skin. I had a hat on so they couldn’t bite my head but then they try and get under my hat and get stuck in my hair. After that happened 3 times, it was time to turn around. When they get stuck in my hair, I hear them buzzing around so needless to say, this walk wasn’t one of my favourite walks.

Here’s a picture of the road we walked on.

Today we went across the bay to the subdivision. Most building on these roads are summer cottages.

IMG_5260.jpeg

IMG_5256.jpeg
The entire subdivision is an inlet surrounded by water. Most people here have boats IMG_5247.jpeg

We like this walk. The roads are privately owned and well cared . There are many birds around this area. We’ve since fox and bobcats as well.

Are you staying at any of these cottages?

No! This is about half an hour away from where we live but it’s on the other side of the Bay. We like staying at our own house better. 😅
The only thing appealing about some of these cottages is the right of way to water some of them have for boats.

I am zeroing in on where you live "Just this side of heaven!"

Today we went on a brand new walk. We walked 6 kilometres. It was overcast and 23 degree. At the moment of writing this it’s sunny. 🌞

IMG_5274.jpeg

This walking trail is made for walking, cross country skiing, biking, snowmobiling and horseback riding and ATV’ing. Today we only saw 3 bikers. These are flowers going along somebody’s driveway.
IMG_5279.jpeg

The trail cuts through many properties but we did find a path that went down to the beach so followed it. It was lined with pretty wildflowers like yarrow, golden rod and others.
IMG_5289.jpeg

We passed a horse farm. The sign is growing into the tree or the tree is growing into the sign.

IMG_5294.jpeg

IMG_5295.jpeg

I’ll continue this on the next post.

Here’s the rocky, rugged beach.
IMG_5303.jpeg
Here’s a chunk of cement mixed with rock. To my eyes, it looked pretty.
IMG_5305.jpeg
On the way back I took photos of some of the houses

It was a really nice walk today. It really lifted up my spirits. On the drive back we stopped at a gift shop. I was hopping they’d sell homemade fudge or toffee apples. I asked the lady if they sold candy and she said they didn’t. They had items made from over 30 crafters. There was everything you could think of. I purchased this little handmade make up bag.
IMG_5311.jpeg

While paying for the item the owner pulled out a drawer and took out some handmade maple fudge. She said it wasn’t for sale but gave us too large chunks. What a wonderful way to top off a lovely walk. I will definitely go back.
We both nibbled at our fudge on the way home. The fabric bag was only $7. The fudge was definitely worth more than that. I’d show you a picture but it’s all gone. lol

Today we went on a 4 kilometre walk. One we were used to. It starts at the park. Today kids were playing baseball and there was quite the crowd.
IMG_5315.jpeg

It’s 22 degrees and a mix of sun and cloud.

IMG_5316.jpeg

We only saw 3 other walkers today.

IMG_5317.jpeg
At the end of the trail it comes to a school
There’s chairs for an outdoor class.

IMG_5319.jpeg

IMG_5322.jpeg

After the walk I got some cards to sent to my mother in law. She fell and broke her shoulder.
