A Nice Walk ( with photos )

Forgot what these ( giant dogs ) represent ….it was something to do with …workers …

Oh not being sure what materials were used to hold railway lines in place in other countries?..

Aussie railway line were held in place
By “ dogs” like the photos ( but were only about 6 inches long x 2 inches wide) attached ~ hammered into place with sledge hammers into huge wood mill sawn sleepers

Hubs has an old railway dog in his shed at home ….
Now days wood sleepers have been replaced by concrete sleepers with metal bands to keep the rail lines in place.

Today we went on 2 walks with our dogs. I had an optometrist appointment in town so we went for a beach walk on the way.

Then we walked on a short walk in town just before my appointment. It was 27 degrees Celsius felt like 31. It was quite warm.

My appointment with the optometrist was great. The glasses I got 4 years ago
( prescription) are still perfect for me. I am very happy about that. Usually I need new glasses every two years but this isn’t the case this time. Our dogs were in the car with the air conditioner going. My husband went to check on them halfway through my appointment. My husband ordered a new pair of glasses today. It was a good day. The dogs weren’t happy with me being gone for 45 minutes. 😂

The thing is with eye tests , @PeppermintPatty you are technically getting allot more than your eyes tested …..they can and do pick up brain tumours / sunspots on the eyes / diabetes and the list gos on ……and out last Visit the Optometrist told us he phoned an ambulance for one of his patients recently ….as he picked up some bug his patient had picked up while overseas and he’d developed a serious brain infection.
My hubs had a serious issue picked up by an eye doctor ..that’s thankfully been resolved long ago ..
Our Optometrist thanked us in April for “ keeping ourselves so heathy “

That’s interesting Kadee. Oddly enough this doctor told me I had the healthiest eyes out of everyone she’d seen that day and she’s got a flourishing business. I was shocked. I need glasses for more than just reading but the glasses I DO have , I’ve got 20/20 vision.
Luckily your husband’s doctor picked up on the serious illness. I certainly didn’t realize that the eye tests pick up more than just eye illnesses. That’s very interesting.

Today is cloudy and 16 degrees Celsius. We drove to the atv trail that runs along the Atlantic Ocean. We saw a couple of lobster boats out in the water.

Here is the path we walked on dotted with dandelions. IMG_8823.jpeg
Here is a chime maker . It has upside down steel bowls and there’s an attached mallet for hitting them with.

We met up with these two people on the way back. They were walking behind us.

On the way back home we spotted 3 different eagles. 🦅 Two were in the same tree.
IMG_8837.jpegHere are some close ups of each of them.
It looks like a mating couple. This is the bigger male.
IMG_8842.jpegAnd this is the smaller female.

IMG_8838.jpeg
Then on our way home we spotted this 3rd eagle. It also looks like a male eagle but I’m not absolutely certain.

Apparently I spoke too soon. Generally speaking females are usually larger except for northern regions like Canada where males ARE larger, so I WAS right.

NOTE: it also says that bald eagles living in Canada, the males ARE usually larger than the females and we are definitely in Canada. This is very interesting.

Quote:
Bald eagles, and many other raptors, have a phenomenon where the female is generally larger and heavier than the male.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Female eagles are typically about 25% larger than male eagles
. This means they are heavier, with longer wingspans and a larger overall size.

  • Weight:
Female bald eagles typically weigh between 10 and 15 pounds, while males weigh 6 to 9 pounds.

  • Size:
The wingspan of a bald eagle ranges from 5.5 to 8 feet, but female eagles tend to have slightly longer wingspans.

  • Physical Characteristics:
While they appear similar, some subtle differences, like beak depth and hallux (toe claw) length, can be used to distinguish them, according to Journey North.

  • Northern vs. Southern Eagles:
Animals living in northern regions, like Alaska and Canada, tend to be larger and heavier than those living in southern regions. This can mean that even male eagles in the north can be as large or larger than southern female eagles.

Did a bit if a walk this afternoon in our new accomodation location , not allot of good walking areas due to footpaths being very sloped making it a bit hard on the old leg / ankle fracture .

Found a nice roomy park area but most of it is soggy / to wet ….due to so much rain ….here in QLD …Not Home :cry:

It’s called Colgate Palmolive park ( the same name as the toothpaste we use ) :)
Colgate Palmolive Park

Today we walked next to the Atlantic Ocean again but a place closer to us than the other one. It was 10 degrees Celsius and sunny.
We passed the chickens again.

We met two people on this path. An older gentleman walking by himself. He was
very friendly. He told us about a woman on the path with a big labradoodle. We thanked him for the ‘heads up.’

There was a nice breeze coming from the ocean.
IMG_8856.jpeg

We can see the lighthouse, from across the bay.
IMG_8859.jpeg

We went down to the beach. It was a fairly low tide .
IMG_8865.jpeg
It was a lovely walk . It was approximately 5 kilometres.

Today it was 8 degrees and raining .
We only walked 2 kilometres metres and within the forest boundaries.

We found a plastic birds nest in the tress put up by the children of the nearby school.
IMG_8869.jpeg
This is the nearby river.

IMG_8870.jpeg
We did a bit of shopping afterwards.
Then went home, had a late lunch and afternoon nap while it poured down.

Today is most cloudy and 12 degrees.
We went on our forest walk which we really like. We didn’t meet up with anyone but we did see a lot of people fishing today along the way and way back.

Along this route we saw a Gnome display done by the nearby school children.
IMG_8888.jpeg
We walked 3 kilometres today.

Here’s a sailboat launched in the bay. IMG_8868.jpegI almost got a nice photo of a blue heron but it was on the drivers side of the car so I missed it.

Today was 12 degrees Celsius ( 53 degrees Fahrenheit) and sunny. We went to the park today and it was wonderful.
We got there at the same time another gentleman got there so went the opposite way we normally go. We didn’t want to be walking with him at the same pace.
IMG_8900.jpeg
We could hear two boats racing each other in the ocean.
IMG_8902.jpeg

Lobster boats are starting to line up along the channel
IMG_8906.jpeg
Sailing boats are being docked in the bay
IMG_8908.jpeg
Today is a beautiful day here. I hope you enjoy yours.

This is a Fiddle leaf fig ,Ficus lyrata - Wikipedia ive got one about 5 ft tall in my semi shade area under a verandah that used to be a caravan storage area .
I didn’t realise they grew so large as I’ve never seen any larger than 2.5 mtrs tall , and no way would they grew out in the open without some sort of shade sail to protect them

Mango tree in a homes front yard ….
no mangos ..on it …they grow mid summer ..however homeowners generally dont …. get crops as they have Bats in Queensland who strip the trees of any fruit before it’s ripe
