A Nice Walk ( with photos )

Today the roads were ploughed so we went for a walk. In places we had to trudge through the snow to create a pathway so it took us a bit longer.

The sun was shining brightly on the way back. IMG_1685.jpeg

On the way back home I couldn’t help noticing the ‘watch out for cows’ sign had been decorated with Christmas decels, which i thought was very cute!

This morning it was raining so we stalled on the walk today . Luckily the rain stopped right before we got to the paths. We brought our trailer today so that we could get a Christmas tree after our walk. We buy a tree off him every year since he has a Christmas tree farm.

I thought it was sweet! It’s like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree.
Have a lovely day.

Yesterday while bringing our Christmas tree home we got a flat tire on our trailer so today we needed to take it in to get it fixed. Since we were in town we decided to walk on the forest path. The path is now getting hard to walk on. Yesterday the temperature went up to 11 degrees Celsius making the path an ice rink . Then it freezes. I fell. It’s time to get out our cleats.

We saw Murphy today and his daddy had cleats. Lol. 😆

Today I woke up late. It kind of threw my whole day off . We decided to get out the cleats today to put on our shoes. For those who don’t know what cleats are……..
IMG_1740.jpeg
These are cleats! They are rubber bands with little pieces of metal on the bottom. The pieces of metal stick to the ice to prevent slipping and falling on surfaces like this.
IMG_1715.jpeg
We didn’t go for our usual walk today. We cut it short . We saw another person with a huge dog ahead of us and decided we didn’t want to deal with it. I’d somehow forgotten how bad the terrain could get in the winter.
We walked approximately 3 kilometres.

Awe, that is really sweet. I love a Charlie Brown Tree.

Today it was raining so we went for a short walk up to the lighthouse and back. We didn’t let our dog decide whether we go or not. She doesn’t like walking in the rain but neither do I. We did take umbrellas.

The rain turned into wet snow. My least favourite snow. I hope we get fresh snow for Christmas.

My first thought when I looked at your photo: it looks like a Charlie brown tree. 😃
Then I read your caption.
😄😁😆☺️

I hope you didn't hurt yourself.
Often a fall onto hard ice, does hurt!

You’re right. We had a decent amount of snowfall on us last night. The roads are too bad to go on so we won’t get going for a walk today. We aren’t , however , in the north of Cape Breton.
The accumulation was going to be more in the Cape Breton area then in the southern part of the mainland.

Based on the pics you post of the coastline I figured you were possibly in the Port Hawksbury, Antigonish or Truro area but I could be way off on that :) and no, I don't expect you to reveal your location so no worries there. It's more fun guessing ;)

Good guess. I live half an hour from one of those guesses. I’m not going to say which one. You seem to know the area well? Do you live in Cape Breton or did you used to.? Do you have family near here? You also don’t need to answer .

My Dad was from Saint John N.B. & we lived there for 5 years in Rothesay NB when I was about 5 years old. We also have a summer cottage in PEI the whole time I was younger and living at home. It was a lighthouse in French River; P.E.I.

(This One):

I had never really been to Nova Scotia other then a couple of quick stops there so I decided to do a road trip and visit a few spots about 3 years ago. Took the ferry from Saint John to Digby then on to Lunenbrug for an over-night stay. The place I stayed at overlooked the harbour there and when I opend the draps in the morning, there was the Bluenose II backing out of her slip in the hazy early moring. What luck to see her!

Headed up the coast to Halifax, stopping at Peggy's Cove on the way of course ;)

After staying in Halifax for a couple of days I headed up to Cape Breton to do the Cabot Trail drive. Even headed off the mail road up to the northern most village; Meat Cove.

Headed back down then around the Northumberland Strait coast stopping in Pictou for lunch; lovely little place!

Sorry for the long explanation for the question you asked but I'm sure you'll know and appreciate all the spots I mentioned :)

You DID live close by. Your trip sounds lovely. Is the picture of your lighthouse cottage a painting? It’s very good.

Your choices for places you visit are interesting. Apparently Lunenburg is supposed to be most beautiful place in Nova Scotia. What season did you visit the Cabot trail? We did the Cabot Trail in Autumn twice!
It’s a beautiful drive.

The Blue Nose is quite a site to see. We’ve seen her a few times. We also have a blue nose model boat in our living room.

Pictou truly S a lovely place. That must have been a fabulous trip. Thanks for sharing it with me .

Today we did half a walk so we went to the park, waked to the lighthouse and got in our car to pick up a snow blower.
We got an Ariens Deluxe 28. We had to take our trailer. It’s 360 pounds.

Anyway here are the pictures I took today.

The above picture is a small picnic area that we stopped at on the way home.

Love the way you put a little natural growth in the foreground, especially the one with the boats. Beautiful!

I got that pic of the lighthouse off the internet so not sure if it's real or a painting? I wondered that too. It is accurate for location content though. The sand dunes across the bay is the far end of Cavendish Beach, which most Canadians would know of. Don't see many people at the end of that beach though as it's a few kms walk to the popular area of Cavendish where all the tourrists are.

There was a beach right out front of the light house but you can't see it in this pic. The beach turned left near the lighthouse and went on for another 1/2 km. It was almost always deserted cuz only the locals knew about it & how to get to it by road. Our own private beach so to speak 🙂

I did my Nove Scotia trip mid-Sept. 2022 so a little early for the colour change in the trees. I bet it's great once they've all turned 😍

I was also pleased to learn that the reconstruction of the sailing ship The Hector was finally finished and launched in Pictou in the summer this year (2025). You can see they had already started it in the pic I posted earlier of Pictou.

Here's a better pic of the early stages of the replica build:
Replica of The Hector in Pictou.jpg

The Hector was one of the first ships that landed in Pictou, Nova Scotia from Scotland on Sept. 15th,1773 carrying approx. 200 Highland Scots. The word got back to Scotland over the years and many, many more followed to 'New Scotland' (Nova Scotia).

I wonder how many Scots today know this story and the influence Scotland had in settling this part of Canada.

The launch of the replica Hector June 2025!

The roads were ploughed and salted so we went to the park for a walk and it was beautiful.

The view from across the bay. It looks Christmasy wth the snow - covered roof tops.

A family of four but only one pathway !
I’m walking last in our single file. I wore my cleats again today.

This is the pathway before we walked through it. We saw deer tracks, fox tracks , squirrel tracks and bunny tracks.

We put the equivalent of ski jackets on our dogs today. It was -7, felt like -12. Our littlest dog acts like it’s a punishment to have a coat on. We clipped their fur the other day right down to the skin so they would have been shivering cold with no coat.

Really beautiful pictures of your snowy land. ❤️

Thank you for replying back yesterday. I m not sure how I missed your posts, but I did.

I’ve only ever seen P.E.i. once and that was when I was a kid ,with my parents. Probably the one thing that stood out the most was all the sandy beaches. To have your own private beach must been amazing, especially as a child. That cottage must have been a treasure to you. I bet you couldn’t wait for summer time. Did you collect coloured glass and seashells?

When I first saw your cottage photo I tried to enlarge it directly off the thread but couldn’t. Today I copied the photo into my photo library and blew up the grassy knoll area and think it’s real. I thought maybe you painted it.

The Cabot Trail WAS Fabulous with all the leaves changing colour.
Your photo is gorgeous. We also saw the Cabot Trail in the year of 2022 except went in October.
