A Nice Walk ( with photos )

I was also pleased to learn that the reconstruction of the sailing ship The Hector was finally finished and launched in Pictou in the summer this year (2025). You can see they had already started it in the pic I posted earlier of Pictou.

Here's a better pic of the early stages of the replica build:

The Hector was one of the first ships that landed in Pictou, Nova Scotia from Scotland on Sept. 15th,1773 carrying approx. 200 Highland Scots. The word got back to Scotland over the years and many, many more followed to 'New Scotland' (Nova Scotia).

I wonder how many Scots today know this story and the influence Scotland had in settling this part of Canada.

The launch of the replica Hector June 2025!

Thank you for the info about ‘The Hector.‘I knew nothing about it and neither did my husband.

We DID however know that many Scottish came to Nova Scotia, Canada. That’s hard NOT to know. IMG_1778.jpeg

I do have an actual real oil painting of the lighthouse that one of my Dad's artist friends painted many, many years ago. It's hanging in my bedroom now. I'll take a picture of it with my camera one day and post it up here in your thread.

There's a whole back story as to how we ended up with a still functioning lighthouse as our summer cottage and how decades later ... we lost it due to Federal Government intervention. Perhaps one day if I ever go into my file folders of photographs in the basement and dig some out, I'll write up the whole story about the lighthouse as a Diary Thread?

Oh I’d love to see a painting of that lighthouse. I’ve got a thing for lobster boats and lighthouses. It’s a really cute lighthouse. I am also an artist myself so have a personal interest as well.

it’s too bad the government took your lighthouse away from you ! What a shock that must have been been . I’d be very interested in reading about it in your diary.

Overall I’m shocked that the government was able to take your cottage from you.

I'll take a pic of that painting in the daylight then post it up here for you.

A very good friend of mine in PEI had a lobster license for his area. They sold them back in the day by lottery only when someone retired and a license became available. He just got lucky and won the lottery one year when a license came available. He sold it a few years ago when he got too old to work it and got over a million dollars for just his license

There's BIG $$ in fishing those crustations I guess🦞

Here's that pic of the oil painting my dad's friend painted decades ago when he stopped in to visit with them.
He would have been sitting on the beach side of the lighthouse whereas that other pic you saw was taken from the other side of the lighthouse, where the entrance door is. You can also see a barn & other out building on a hill above the lighthouse. To the left of those was an old farmhouse built in the 1920's. Big old 2 story white farmhouse on a hill overlooking the bay and the ocean. The lighthouse was along the PEI north shore facing the Atlantic Ocean, not on the south shore facing the Northumberland strait.

Sorry I couldn't get a proper straight on pic cuz I was in an ackward position. It's a bit crooked and the brown matting around the pic didn't all make the shot, lol.

The window on the left is the kitchen window. The one on the right is the bathroom window. The window above that one is the bedroom window. One large bedroom on the second floor where everyone had to sleep
Above the bedroom level was a series of two stairways; more like a very steep ladder with steps instead of rungs.

That led you up to a hatch you had to unlock and flip up then crawl through into the area where you see the red metal cap of the lighthouse; where the actual light is. From there you could open another really small hatch and crawl through to get onto the catwalk you see going around the outside of the light. That was probably about 30 feet up? Great view of the ocean, beach & the bay!

Sorry to ramble on but thought you may be interested to know what the internal design was for a lighthouse built like this one.

What a beautiful painting. Your father’s friend was a very good artist. I truly love the Painting. I could instantly tell that this was painted from the other side.

I love the way he painted the long golden grass in the foreground. The way you explained where the Rooms were and the stairs leading up to the top really made me feel like I was there.

Those buildings in the background were done so well. I had to zoom in to see the second building with the silver / white rooftop.

Did the artist use a photo or did they paint it on location wth an easel.?

Thanks for showing us this beautiful picture.
It’s truly lovely.

We decided to go for a car ride this evening to look at the Christmas lights. On the way into town we saw a shooting star 💫. It’s been decades since I saw a shooting star. It was very exciting!!

This house has lights on ALL parts of the house. You’ll have to zoom in to see all lights on the house. IMG_1797.jpegThis is a different angle. IMG_2423.jpegIMG_2424.jpeg
This is an antique truck with a tree decorated with white lights.

He sat there on a lawn chair with an easel on the beach for periods over three days was my understanding. I wasn't there at the time. I do remember his name was Al Wilson. I believe he was an artist who worked for an Advertising Agency my dad dealth with. Those days were very much like the series 'Mad Men', if you ever watched that show? My dad was an Advertising Manager for Shell Canada and worked with many advertising agencies over the years. That's another story though

I took it from my parents house when my brother & I had to sell it cuz it was obviously a special momento from our youth. My brother took a couple of other such momentos.

A true artist. He painted it in only 3 days. Thats not long.

When my parents went into a nursery home, I took all the pictures. The reason is because I either painted them or bought and there were quite a few pictures. . There were 5 pictures I painted, one huge needle point that took me years to finish and a Robert Bateman snowy leopard. All look very nice on our walls.

Today on the way in for our walk we saw an otter and an eagle standing side by side about 20 feet apart from each other on piece of ice in the water . We immediately stopped the car and got out scaring the otter away and then the eagle. All that was left was the eagle but left not without first taking a photo.

Today I wore cleats. It was 12 degrees out and the paths were very slippery.
