A Nice Walk ( with photos )

Today was a good day to hunt for morel mushrooms. I have found 7 so far this year. We have about a 2 week season. This is a pic of how ripe the forest is right now. :)

I enjoy foraging in the forest also. Do you ever forage for salad greens? I’ve considered it but am too worried about eating something poisonous.

Today we went to the provincial park again. We took the nature trail up to the park instead of the road. It had more snow on it but it wasn’t slippery.

Now we are at the top of the hill. Here is a resting bench. IMG_3170.jpeg
We walked around the campsites for an extended walk . IMG_3179.jpeg
The entire campsite is wheelchair accessible
which I think is nice.

As you can see from the pictures, it was a sunny day with a high of 7 degrees Celsius which felt very warm compared to the winter weather. I’m looking forward to the rest of spring.

Have a nice day.

That looks like a little Christmas tree in the picture with the "Walking Trail" sign. 🎄

We do eat a few wild greens (I forget their names). We have a bunch of blackberries! :)
We pick and eat lots of wild berries. Wild Raspberries, strawberries , blackberries and blueberries. There are lots of wild berries in Cape Breton. We’ve also got 5 blackberries, 5 blueberries 24 raspberries, and dozens of strawberries plants on our property. We aren’t sure how many we have but there’s a LOT!! We planted lots of berry plants cause we want to make pies and things from them.

Those are morel mushrooms. I was tired so I leaned back on a tree to rest and looked to my left and saw the first one. They were all within about a 20ft area.

We eat the lambs quarters by cooking them...kind of like spinach.

Do you get wild morels way up there? :)

I’m sure we do get morels up our way. Let me look it up!

Spring Morel Mushroom Hunting in the Canadian Prairies
Yes, black morel mushrooms exist in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, though they are considered rare or hard to find compared to other regions. They generally emerge in late spring—often around early June—preferring specific, warmer conditions in forested areas.

lambs quarters would work as a spinach substitute. Good to know. I’ve definitely seen that plant before. We had lots of it growing in our other home in Ontario.

I took a decent walk myself today with my girls (Lia and Ember) at the ocean in San Francisco today. Clear enough today to see the Farallon Islands 30 miles offshore from the Golden Gate Bridge. Probably only 2 to 3 miles but with lots of elevation change.

I am from Cupertino. Great pictures of the ocean. In the last picture in the upper right it looks like there is a person hanging from a parachute glider!!! What a catch. :)

That’s a beautiful walk you have access to.
I agree that the parachuter was a great catch.
Thanks for showing us your pics!

Today is nice and sunny with a high of 3 degrees Celsius. We drove to the Celtic trails again knowing the paths are clear of snow and ice.

We saw five people on our walk. Four adults and one baby. Then again, it’s the weekend.

The ice floating in the Atlantic Ocean is all breaking up.

We saw a few seagulls here and there scavenging food from the ocean.

WOW !!! Beautiful pictures!! :love::love:

Today we walked through the forest trail. It is 11 degrees Celsius out without a cloud in the sky. We saw 4 people today and 2 dogs. They were Shetland sheep dogs. They look like miniatures collies but aren’t. The guy walking them told us that the boy was still a pup and the other one was 8 years old.

The path is covered with snow and ice in certain areas so we didn’t walk very far.
It’s a lovely day today. It’s a shame we couldn’t walk further.

I stopped to take pictures of Bras D’ Ore lake which is actually a large salt water lake.

Gorgeous pictures, Patty. I've mentioned it before, but I really like the dappled light in your shots.
