I just received an email that states I made a $700 purchase at wal-mart ....... that I did I not make ..... there is a phone number to call listed, and it has a reply provision.

What to do ??? Is there a trap there in replying ? Is there a trap in not replying ?

Get those all the time. DO NOT RESPOND! Just ignore it. DO NOT call that number. DO NOT click on the e-mail.

Well, I did click on it.......that's how I know what it said ..........

I did so because I did make a purchase yesterday, but not from W/mart, and not for $700. It was from another site, for $70.00

Please do not call the number. Mine always says "if this is an error , call this number to correct this mistake."
DON'T CALL! Nothing will happen. Give no more concern.
They will do this again and again but please don't click on it!

When me and my wife get e-mails like that we delete them or put them in the junk mail file. Also be cautious of packages you receive that you dont know who sent them and you did not order anything. Just from a safety perspective because it could be a bomb or some other deadly device.

Well, I followed the advise given and.........called the C/C company.

The woman read to me the purchases I did make yesterday, my vitamin refills, and a pizza ... ;)

She went on to say the same thing just happened to HER .... and to delete the email, and not to worry about it.

Thank you too all that replied.

Another thing that can be done is to set your credit card to send you a text message whenever there is a purchase over a certain dollar limit. I did that with my credit card, tho I should probably increase the alert amount because a lot of times I get alerts about my own purchases, ha ha.

I have also done this. I keep the amount low or about $150.00, Better to get a call from the C/C company than have someone get a lot of merchandise using your account. If I'm going out to buy something big I call the C/C Co. & tell them I'll go to buy a new refrigerator so there will be a bigger price. They say ok thanks for letting us know. The number is on the back of the c/c.

I get calls from C/C's that someone "tried" to purchase a $3,000.00 john boat & fishing stuff. Is that what you purchase? I tell them no I didn't buy anything like that. The fellow says ok I'll keep the people here & have police on the way. In the meantime I've closed your account & will be issuing you a new C/C by FedEx will arrive tomorrow.

So if you have automatic deductions using this number they will not get paid, remember to go in & change the C/C number on these accounts when you get the new one.

There is a thing called "brushing", where you get a package, usually from china with some cheap crap in it.
I had a different experience. We were expecting a piece of furniture that normally comes knocked down and you have to assemble it. I got a large package of furniture pieces with NO instructions and NO assembly hardware. I traced it back to a Chinese company in Houston. I finally threw it out.

If I order anything from Walmart, all I get is an order confirmation saying thank you for your order and showing the item I purchased and the cost. Was the email an order confirmation? Was a product and price listed? Were the last 4 digits of your credit card listed? Unless you want to cancel the order or edit it, they should not be requesting any reply from you. If this looks suspicious, and it should since you didn't make an order, then I would not use any contact info. If it shows the credit card used, call them immediately and check on it.
