Abandoned Places. Some are still very beautiful. Some kind of creepy.

I LOVE the abandoned placed websites. For some reason I find such pictures quite fascinating.

Me too. I even subscribe to an abandoned theater newsletter - something about them is both haunting and beautiful. Kind of apocalyptic.

Great pics, Kaya - thank you!

It's truly a crime when such architecture is just left to the elements. I've often wanted to go be a sqautter in these places and fix them up.

I've also been sort of (probably morbidly) fascinated by old abandoned hospitals and insane asylums. And also there are some incredibly beautiful abandoned churches, just left to rot away.

Well...help me with more pics you guys! There are some fascinating ones all over the net, but some don't say where they are. I try to post the ones that give that info. And like you said Sifu, its just so sad that they rot as they stand. Such beautiful places, too. And all those books? So sad.

At Cruden Bay in N.E. Scotland is the remains of Slains Castle. This is not the original castle of that name, but still it has an interesting story.

Bram Stoker, the author of 'Dracula' was a frequent visitor to Cruden Bay and wrote some of 'Dracula' while staying in a local hotel. He was also a guest at Slains castle in its heyday , and it is believed that the castle (which sits atop a rocky cliff) was an inspiration for Dracula's castle. People who come from Yorkshire are fiercely protective because the story is set there, but the book was at mostly written in Cruden bay.

The village has a beautiful curving beach and a world class golf links. In Stoker's time it was a popular destination, but this has declined in modern times.

Not many things scare me, living or dead, but abandoned insane asylums ... yeah ...

But Phil -- you've got some lovely ones in PA -- there's the Pennsylvania State Lunatic Hospital (more recently known as the Harrisburg State Hospital) and also the Eastern Pennsylvania State Institution for the Feeble-Minded and Epileptic (a/k/a Pennhurst State School and Hospital). You've also got some dandy abandoned prisons in PA.

I figure I'm headed for the Massachusetts State Home for the Bewildered . . . .

I visited Pennhurst once - wouldn't want to do it after dark. That place was just evil.

I figure I'm headed for the Massachusetts State Home for the Bewildered . . . .

I'll probably end up in Riverview Mental Hostpital in B.C. ...
