Accidentally locked yourself out

I have :giggle:
Front door is always locked, back sliding door locked, went out the side door to get something from the garage and forgot to unlock the handle.
When I tried the door, I was like OH OH.
But it's a good thing our neighbours were home, a couple of them have our front door key. We have keys to about 5 of our neighbours as well and some of them have come to us for the key.

Last yr after I moved here to Canterbury Woods, one day by mistake I took my Tudor Plaza keys and went for a walk ,I still hadn't had my closing yet. When I got back, realized I couldn't; get back in my new apt, so I went down to the lobby asked for the master key I put the TP keys in a different place until the closing

Yes I have and it wasn't pretty.

I had a key hidden in the backyard but the gate was locked, if course. I had to climb over the fence. That was the "wasn't pretty" part.

Now I have a key hidden that's accessible. Plus, my neighbor has one and I know the combination to her front door and where my key is in her house.

I am NOT climbing over a fence again!

Yes, I did. I kept having thoughts about locking myself out so I hid a key outside. Less than a week later, I walked outside and as I closed the door, I thought, "that felt strange" and sure enough, somehow the door had locked. It was winter with snow on the ground, night time. There was a moment of panic. Then I remembered I had recently hidden a key outside. All was well.

This happens to me now and then -- a thought keeps popping into my head about something and shortly after, that something happens. I have learned to pay attention to these thoughts, which seem like a sort of warning.

My apartment has a real old fashioned lock. I can only lock the door with a key. Even when they get around to remodeling as they are doing. I'm going to ask to keep it, or opt for the 4 digit code like the new doors being installed. In the past at my old home, I kept a window unlocked and would just crawl in.

Yes, that has happened to me a few times. I forget to take keys when going out and the door is in the lock position. Once had to have landlord open and a few times I had to call husband to come home from work with a key to get back into the house.

I've locked myself out twice.. both time were when me and his majesty were going out together and each thought the other had their door keys... both times I had to call a locksmith... expensive !

i wrapped a key very carefully and then put it into a tin box and hid it in the garden. I felt sure I knew exactly where it was.. when it came to having to find it to use it.. it wasn't there. I searched and searched in that area, not there..

Now, I have a car insurance which covers the loss of keys and pays for lock renewals ...and I used the insurance when I changed the locks on ll the doors when the X left...

When I lived in Nebraska once I came home from work (probably 9 PMish) and found that the power was down in our area. I normally didn't use a key because I'd use the garage door opener from my car, so I would have had to open the side door with the key on my keychain, except I'd locked the screen door and I didn't have a key for that.

I waited for the power to be restored, but that didn't happen until after 3 AM -- meanwhile I sat in the barn for a few hours keeping the barn cat company and playing on my kindle (had it because I carried it to work each day to entertain me while I ate lunch), and eventually I drove back to town to go to an all-night IHOP, where I had the most disappointing not-entirely-cooked pancakes (I didn't complain tho because I was too tired and didn't really want the calories, got enough of those eating around the edges of the pancakes).

Now that I live in a condo in Maryland, I've left a copy of my key with the management office and if they aren't open then I've also left a copy of the key with the community security service. Also, they might have a way to open the doors without a key because they advertise that it is a $25 charge for them to open a door for a locked out resident.

I was in first or second grade. The door had a knob set that would lock automatically. I hadn't intended to pull the door fully shut, but I did. I had to wait for an adult to arrive home. It was spring or summer so it wasn't a hardship to be outside.

Yes, but thankfully, I gave the lovely lady from over yonder a spare key, but she told me, "Tim, I might not always be around, so, go and get 6 keys cut for your front door and bring your coats over here so I can sew little pockets in them to contain an emergency key."
Did I tell you that I have an Angel living opposite me? 😊
