Addicted to the Internet!

well i suppose it's not too difficult to recognize when we are becoming addicted - the animals are being ignored more and more; house is getting more untidy; essential updates to property being ignored etc etc - not sure whether that just comes with old age or an off shoot of internet addiction. but it will be damned if it is and damned if its not - it's definitely here to stay and we just have to manage it. Here am I at midnight in oz still typing having watched oz get defeated by Peru - I can't take much more of this!! :eek:nthego:

It is an adventure and a release for me. Relieves stress, connects me to interesting subject matter, as well as Pinterest, my war games etc. Loll. Also, I have wonderful online friends. That is how I met SifuPhil.

Addicted ?? I'm practically married to it.

Here's what I like: One can find ANYTHING you want to know via the internet.

If I have anything that I need to do, I make myself do it first before I turn my computer on. If I don't, I'll never get around to doing it. Then, once I turn it on, I make myself take breaks either by setting a timer or using a "Break Reminder" computer program so my neck doesn't start hurting again. And it does if I don't!

.

I've been on the internet since 2000. It didn't take long to become addicted. But that has now changed.
I still like getting news and information via the internet... but interest in the rest of it has waned.

Sad stuff, you addicts. I spend, maybe, two hours online, each day, to do business-related things and drop by this forum, for a bit. One poster wrote that you'll get over it. That is not what most major studies have found, lately. Instead, internet addiction is spreading among all age groups, and it is not easily worked through. Try to find things to do that have no connection (pun?) to your computer and the internet. Get outside, go hiking, garden, rearrange your furniture, go see an art exhibit, find a new restaurant, etc., etc., etc. Good luck to you info shooting junkies!

The TreeGod in the sky has spoken

I am a benevolent god, though, and I am gently calling to each of you to press and hold the power buttons on your computers and get outside to enjoy the day/night.

Get outside and enjoy the fresh air!!!

Am I addicted? Maybe, maybe not.
It is not controlling my life. I enjoy surfing around.
When I need motivation to get out and be more active I go to sites that motivate me to be more active.
Need to eat healthier. I find recipes to inspire me to cook healthy meals. Then I do it.
House needs sprucing? Plenty of ideas on the web.
Want to talk to people at 3 AM? There's people here.
If you feel it's out of control turn it off and go do something. If you can't find anything to do turn it back on and type in "What to do when bored". Then do it. :)

I'm not addicted to the internet
I'm on my computer twice a day, once in the morning/mid afternoon. I ck my emails, come over here to see what's happening, play a couple online games
I've have other activites to occupy my time, volunteering 3 mornings/wk,going on my 3 daily walks{weather permitting},reading, doing NYT crossword puzzles
Three yrs ago as an experiment,I gave up posting at the AARP website for Lent. When I mentioned this to a couple online friends, they told me''you won't last long' or 'I could never do that'.The first day or so, was difficult, but after that it was easy. Its all about will power Sue

I'm so grateful for the Internet's instantaneous access to information of every possible stripe.

My newspaper comes via the net, as do my bills and 99% of my correspondence. I research consumer goods and services in cyberspace, stay well informed about my body and make informed decisions about medical care (remember the days when doctors believed they were gods and fully expected to be treated thusly?), am my own travel agent, and have made numerous friends on the Internet.

So while it's true that I'm on the Internet a lot, I'm also doing a lot of things on line that I would have to handle one way or the other.

I know... rationalize much?

It wasn’t like the Internet was taking up all my time. Far from it. I’ve got far too much to do for that to happen. In fact, I think I burned myself out trying to do too much.

I’ve had two properties to maintain, both inside and out. From cutting down trees to window washing, I was trying to do it all, AND THEN I got a power washer. Oh boy.

Anyway my body ached so I figured I’d go online and give my body a break but from how I was sitting with my phone, it didn’t help matters any. Plus I was trying to relax with far too much adrenaline pumping through my system so relaxing , I wasn’t.

And the last thing was that my husband asked me to make him some cookies and I agreed to do it but didn’t. He doesn’t ask for a lot and didn’t even complain. I just automatically felt guilty since I’d chosen to chat with all you.

My perspective was all out of whack and I’ve since made the cookies.

Not that you guys aren’t all worth it but you surely know what I mean.

No?

I’m going to discipline myself better and try to stick with limiting myself and having some kind of schedule. Maybe!

Oh., by the way, that power washer totally rocks.

If there was no internet I would never have met the wonderful people on SF.
The internet is just a vehicle like a bus or a train, it's where that bus or train takes me that I'm addicted to.
To all the lads on SF, here's my virtual hand to shake, to all the girls, here's a great big virtual hug..............form a queue now ladies:D

I enjoy it but if I'm away from it for a few days it doesn't cause me to lose any sleep. But it is handy to look things up quickly or keep abreast of sports scores, etc.. Sure beats wading through the encyclopedia to find something!!:D
