Adelaide Costco store

We had a Costco store open in Adeliade about a month ago the first in South Australia, (will have to google to find out what other states in Australia have an Costco.)
The reason I thought about posting this is mainly about petrol as we call it, but it's called Gasoline at the Costco service station right near their new warehouse it's really good for us, as a little competition is always good in our eyes, prior to them opening recently we were paying about the $1.50 a litre for petrol but since they opened we have been only paying $1.18. A litre.
As far as the food and other items they sell we are amazed by the sizes of many items, one item comes to mind a 5kg jar of Nutella you would need a shovel to get to the bottom of that
We have never seen or been in store that sells TV's in one section and food in the other sections it's huge
How many members maybe shop in or have a Costco !??
Prior to them opening we only had Woolworths, Coles and Foodland stores, Aldi are in the process of building a warehouse which is expected to open in 2016 we have never had them here either, I like to shop at Aldi for certain things when we go to Queensland on holidays in the winter months
Queensland daytime winter temptures are about 25c in S.A it can get as low as 10c daytime here we normally go to Queenland for a month we say it's a little kinder on the poor ole bones getting away from the cold for a short break

Kakee, I love your postin. It wakes me up to the other side of the globe. We are experiencing winter and I have to remind myself you are having summer. Yes, Costco is amazing.
I live alone, so I have a card with my daughter and family. It is great to buy big items. I buy tires, tvs, meds, wines, and prepared foods from there.

We have them here but I don't use them. I don't like to have to pay a fee just to shop in a store.
Our regular stores have sales periodically on the same items so I just wait til then.
Besides the Costo (And also Sams) is too far for me to drive for a couple of bucks off on any item.

I'm with Falcon on this one. I paid an annual fee to shop there some years ago and did shop there for a few years and shared the huge quantities between my daughter and I about a couple of times a year. The nearest one to me is about 15 miles from here, but now my daughter lives abroad, and so huge quantities are too much for me to find storage space for, and like Falcon said, I can find bargains in all the other supermarkets closer to my home anyway, so I haven't renewed my membership this year!!

I'm with Falcon, paying for membership chaff's my hide. My daughter had a retail business and paid our fees so she could get the cash backs. She closed her business and soon I'll be met with the annual fee. You have to be careful about deals some are good and others can be had elsewhere at better prices. The rotisserie chicken is the best going along with some of the bakery products. We were buying paper products but found that we could watch sales and get them cheaper.

Gas is a plus, the lines are not. The other thing I dislike that they get something in and next visit it's gone. Asked a clerk about an organic potato salad that was the best prepared I had ever eaten and as was told it was out of season, it was August (potatoes, eggs, pickles, seasoning and mayo) when the heck does potato salad go out of season? Haven't purchased anything electronic or automotive products so can't attest to their price or quality.

We had a Costco membership through our business for years but really,we rarely used it. We would go meat shopping there on the way out of town when camping and occasionally for an electronic but that was about it. My daughter goes all the time-in spite of the fact that the nearest Costco is an hour and a half from us. But she has 5 kids so it makes more sense for her. I have heard that you can go in on a one day pass for $5.00-if that`s true,we would be more likely to do that than spend $50.00 annually and maybe not go at all. That being said, they are opening a Costco closer to us-30 minutes away, where we go frequently,so we may go more often then. Especially if we have foster kids here.

We belong to Costco and buy some stuff there, but not everything there is a bargain. There's only the two of us, so we don't buy the huge packs of items, unless we can use our plastic sealer bags and freeze some of it...or put the extra jars/cans in the pantry, good to have emergency food on hand anyway.

We get our dog food there, Kirkland's Chicken with Rice and Vegetables, or their grain-free. Also treats like Sweet Potato Chicken Jerky, biscuits, etc. We buy whole wheat spagetti, flaxseeds, olive oil, jar peppers, bagels, Australian boneless leg of lamb, lox (smoked salmon), cheeses like Gouda, frozen eggplant parmesan, lasagna (beef), pizzas, tuna fish, sardines, coconut oil, coffee creamer, etc. Most of our other food shopping is done at local supermarkets, better prices, especially with coupons or sales.

We also get items like Epsom Salts, Therma-Care wraps, dental floss and other things when they're on sale. As far as big items like TVs, computers, mattresses, etc., we find there's better deals in other stores like Best Buy, etc.

We personally didn't think they were cheap, we only bought chia seeds, and a metal fruit basket. We like the fact they have cheap fuel and it makes the Coles right next door drop prices to the same as them 1.18 ltr but we get a further 4 cents off if we have a Coles docket, almost every other petrol station petrol costs are 1.39 ltr so it's a good saving for us when we are in Adelaide

I agree with Falcon and others. I just can't see paying for the right to buy from a store. Not that it would make a difference around here. The Sam's club ( if it's still there ) is nearly 60 miles away and I don't know of any Costco at all.

Funny story about Costco shopping....as I said above,my daughter shops there because she has five kids, and then there`s all their friends. She actually started even before she had all her kids, because she had a home daycare. Anyway,it`s well known that she has a pantry fully stocked with whatever kind of snack item you might want. So several of our/their friends who work around town will stop by her house and grab a snack if they are in her neighborhood and are hungry lol. We always chuckle about that and say "Only in Lake County......"

The opening of Costco has been a real eye opener for Adelaide, never seen a shop like it it's also good work wise employing almost 400 people
You can just about go in there hungry and leave quite full with all the samples to try.
